La Salle, Maranatha, Poly, Flintridge Prep, St. Francis Collect Wins

The La Salle College Preparatory varsity boys’ soccer team blanked visiting St. Anthony High of Long Beach, 2-0, in a Camino Real League matchup last Friday.
Thomas Espinoza and Tomas Posada-Awad each scored one goal, Mario Cassina and Mak Hadziomanovic were each credited with an assist, and Ryan Wu tallied a pair of saves.
The Lancers lost at Paraclete High in Lancaster in double overtime, 3-1, in their league opener last Wednesday. Caden Brown registered one goal, Cabral Corvelo finished with one assist and Julian Gomez had one save.
La Salle recently competed in the Ontario Christian Tournament and finished with a 2-0 shutout over Arrowhead Christian High of Redlands. Brown and Espinoza each recorded one goal, Corvelo produced two assists, and Gomez and Wu each made a pair of saves.
The Lancers edged Burroughs High of Ridgecrest, 2-1, in a tournament game as Hadziomanovic scored a pair of goals. Espinoza and Corvelo each had one assist while Gomez posted one save.
La Salle previously suffered a pair of losses in their first two tournament games against Whittier, 3-0, and Rowland Heights, 2-0.
The Lancers (11-4 overall, 1-1 in league) will host Verbum Dei High of Los Angeles in a league game on Friday, Jan. 13, at 5 p.m. before visiting St. Pius X-St. Matthias Academy in Downey for a league matchup on Wednesday, Jan. 18.

MARANATHA

The Minutemen tied host Valley Christian High in Cerritos, 1-1, in their Olympic League opener last Friday.
Junior George Peterson scored once while junior Lorenzo Rodriguez posted a pair of saves.
Maranatha recently competed in the Ontario Christian Tournament and finished fourth after losing to Rowland Heights, 2-0. The Minutemen were shut out the day before by the Palmdale Aerospace Academy, 1-0.
Maranatha edged Colony High of Ontario, 3-2, in a tournament game as Peterson registered two goals. Freshman Luca Youssefian finished with one goal while senior Jacob Brantingham was credited with an assist.
The Minutemen previously opened tournament action by blanking Arrowhead Christian High of Redlands, 1-0. Peterson scored the deciding goal while sophomore Aren Tatevossian was credited with an assist.
Maranatha (8-7-2 overall, 0-0-1 in league) will host Whittier Christian High of La Habra in a league game on Friday, Jan. 13, at 5:30 p.m. before visiting Heritage Christian High in Northridge for a league matchup on Tuesday, Jan. 17.

  • Polytechnic James Gomez was credited with a pair of assists to help the Panthers defeat Mark Keppel High of Alhambra in a nonleague game last week.
  • St. Francis High School junior Luke Wyatt scored three goals in three games during the Nike Classic.
  • Flintridge Prep junior Rafi Fermanian scored one goal during a La Cañada High School tournament game against La Cañada.

POLY

The Panthers defeated visiting Mark Keppel High of Alhambra, 4-2, in a nonleague game on Friday.
Freshman Joe Benitez registered two goals, senior Oliver Moltz finished with one goal and one assist, and senior Anton Landerer scored once. Senior goalies Nathaniel Marko and Jonah Goldstein each posted three saves while senior James Gomez was credited with a pair of assists.
Poly previously lost a nonleague game at Monrovia, 3-1. Gomez scored the lone goal on a penalty kick while Marko finished with five saves.
The Panthers (6-4 overall, 2-0 in league) will host Flintridge Prep of La Cañada Flintridge in a league game today at 3:15 p.m. before hosting Providence High of Burbank in a league matchup on Wednesday, Jan. 18.

FLINTRIDGE PREP

The Wolves recently competed in the La Cañada Tournament and finished with a 3-3 tie against Monrovia.
Freshman Jonah Rose registered one goal and one assist, senior EQ Willis and junior Leo Ferry each scored once, and senior Sean O’Leary was credited with an assist.
Flintridge Prep edged Simi Valley, 3-2, in a tournament game. Willis finished with one goal and one assist while senior Henry Brookbanks and Ferry each had one goal.
The Wolves previously lost their tournament opener to host La Cañada, 10-3, as junior Rafi Fermanian, Ferry and Willis each scored one goal.
Flintridge Prep (3-3-2 overall, 0-0-1 in league) will visit Polytechnic for a league match today at 3:15 p.m. before hosting Palos Verdes Chadwick in a league matchup on Wednesday, Jan. 18.

ST. FRANCIS

The Golden Knights edged visiting Sierra Canyon High of Chatsworth, 2-1, in a Mission League game last Friday as juniors Juan Izaguirre and Alex Lopez each scored once.
SFHS blanked host Alemany High in Mission Hills, 2-0, in a league game last Wednesday. Senior Quinnten Guzman and junior Mikey McCarthy each recorded one goal while freshman Rome Strongin and sophomore Tim Murphy finished with four and three saves, respectively.
The Golden Knights recently competed in the Nike Classic last week and finished the three-day tournament with a 1-2 record.
St. Francis lost to Hoover High of San Diego, 3-1, in its tournament finale as junior Luke Wyatt scored one goal.
The Golden Knights were edged by Rancho Buena Vista, 2-1, on the second day of tournament play as Wyatt tallied one goal.
SFHS previously crushed Holtville in its tournament opener, 5-1, as senior Evan Barber, senior Nick Ferry, Lopez and Wyatt each scored once.
St. Francis (4-6-1 overall, 2-2 in league) will visit Notre Dame High in Sherman Oaks for a league game on Friday, Jan. 13, at 5 p.m. before hosting Harvard-Westlake High of Studio City on Wednesday, Jan. 18.
