The venerable Pasadena law firm Hahn & Hahn LLP announced Thursday that Partner R. Scott Jenkins will retire from the firm effective June 30. For more than 38 years, Jenkins has practiced business and real estate law with the firm. He is a former managing partner.
“It is with decidedly mixed emotions that we bid farewell to Scott,” said Managing Partner Christianne F. Kerns.
“For nearly four decades of dedicated service to our firm, our clients, and the larger Pasadena community, Scott has been a respected colleague, trusted adviser, inspirational leader and dear friend. We are excited for all the new adventures he will now be able to take on, but his presence at the firm will be deeply missed.”
Jenkins is well known in the region as a land use attorney, representing property owners and developers in entitlement proceedings before various city agencies. Jenkins was the lead attorney on many significant real estate projects in the Pasadena area, including the One Colorado Project, the Raymond Theatre Apartments, the Montana Condominium, the Playhouse Office Building, and master plans for many local educational institutions and churches, including Caltech and Fuller Theological Seminary. Prior to joining Hahn & Hahn, Jenkins was with the Los Angeles firm Tuttle & Taylor from 1979 to 1985.
Jenkins is equally known for his service to the community. He is currently the chair of the Board of Forest Lawn Cemeteries and Mortuaries, a director of Huntington Hospital, and a Life Director of the Tournament of Roses. He has served on numerous nonprofit boards, including a term as president of the Los Angeles Regional Foodbank. He also served as an elected member of the San Marino Unified School District Governing Board from 1997 to 2001.
In 2013, Jenkins was elected president of the Pasadena Tournament of Roses Association. He presided over the 125th Rose Parade and Rose Bowl Game, selecting the beloved Dodgers announcer Vin Scully as his Grand Marshall. The theme of the 2014 Rose Parade, “Dreams Come True,” reflects Jenkins’ optimistic view of the world.
“I have been fortunate to practice law with a historic firm and extraordinarily talented attorneys,” reflected Jenkins, “and I have had the opportunity to serve hundreds of amazing clients. They and their businesses have brought me great joy and fulfillment throughout my career. Now I am looking forward to continuing to do good work in our community, spending more time with my family, and maybe climbing a mountain or two.”
Jenkins and his wife, Cindy, live in San Marino and have two grown daughters, Courtney and Lindsay, and two granddaughters. He is active in San Marino Community Church, where he has served as an elder and as president of the Church Foundation. The Jenkins have participated on several church mission trips to Malawi in southern Africa, assisting AIDS orphans. On one memorable trip, Jenkins climbed to the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro.
Jenkins is a graduate of Pasadena High School. He graduated from the University of California at Berkeley with honors and earned his law degree from the University of Southern California.
