Flintridge Prep’s Brunngraber Named League MVP

The Prep League recently released its all-league teams for baseball, softball, boys’ volleyball, track and field, swim and dive, and boys’ golf following the completion of the 2023 spring season. Flintridge Prep athletes were recognized for their season-long accomplishments, hard work and outstanding contributions to their teams.

BASEBALL
The Flintridge Prep varsity baseball team concluded the season as Prep League champions with a 10-2 record (18-8 overall) and had six individuals selected for honors, led by MVP recipient senior Max Brunngraber. Senior John Kully, sophomore Brian Xu and freshman Will Grable were firstteam selections while sophomores Will Koh and Rowan Schaeffer earned second- team honors. Brunngraber was the clear ace of the Wolves’ pitching staff as he finished with a 7-3 record and a 1.90 ERA. He racked up a team-high 97 strikeouts in 11 appearances spanning 62.2 innings while tossing one complete game. Kully posted a .319 batting average with a team-high eight doubles and 30 runs while adding 18 RBIs, a pair of triples and a .993 OPS. Xu finished with team-best marks in batting average (.338) and RBIs (26) while adding 22 runs, five doubles, one home run and one triple with a .868 OPS. Grable collected 17 hits, 17 RBIs and 18 runs at the plate while posting a 1.37 ERA over 30.2 innings with 41 strikeouts on the mound. Schaeffer had 17 hits, 20 runs and eight RBIs at the plate while finishing with a 3.77 ERA and 20 strikeouts over 42.2 innings on the mound. Koh produced 16 hits, 16 RBIs and 14 runs with four doubles and a pair of triples.

SOFTBALL
Sophomore Elise Fong was a first-team selection while junior Asta Uziel, sophomore Sienna Liston and freshman Mary Sinclair earned second-team honors. Individual season statistics were not reported to the Pasadena Outlook. The Wolves finished the campaign third in league with an 8-4 record (12-8 overall).

BOYS’ VOLLEYBALL
Senior Kerry Ji was a first-team selection while junior Roderick Liu earned second-team honors. Individual season statistics were not reported to the Pasadena Outlook. The Wolves concluded the season third in the standings with a 4-4 record (10-15 overall).

TRACK & FIELD
Junior Katharina Zirn was the field MVP while also winning the girls’ shot put. Freshman Scarlett Coombes was the girls’ 100 and 200 champion. Junior William Bigby was the boys’ 100, 200 and 400 champion while junior Kevin Martinez was the boys’ 110 hurdles, 300 hurdles, long jump and triple jump winner.

SWIMMING & DIVING
Sophomore Addie Gish, who was named co-MVP, was the girls’ 200 individual medley and the 500 free champion. Freshman Natalie Walklett won the girls’ 300 freestyle and the 100 breaststroke, sophomore Charlotte Fishman was the girls’ 100 butterfly winner and sophomore Sarah Iturbe was the girls’ 100 backstroke champion. The relay team of Gish, Fishman, Walklett and Megan Lee won the girls’ 200 free while the relay team of Fish, Iturbe, Lee and Walklett won the girls’ 400 free. Junior Athan Boutakidis was named the boys’ co-MVP after winning the 50 and 100 freestyles.

BOYS’ GOLF
Sophomore Kaiden Hong was named MVP while senior Alex Oh, senior Henry Brookbanks and senior Henry Tolleson each earned first-team selections.
