Local Squads Lose Postseason Games

The Maranatha High School varsity softball team lost to visiting Ganesha High of Pomona, 13-0, in a CIF-Southern Section Division VII quarterfinal game last Thursday. The Minutemen picked up a second-round victory at Mountain View High in El Monte, 16-5. Individual statistics were not reported to the Pasadena Outlook. Maranatha previously routed host Desert Christian High in Lancaster, 19-2, in its CIF first-round matchup. Junior Isabela Guerrero, who went 2-for-2 with a triple, three RBIs and two runs, allowed a pair of unearned runs on four walks and one hit with five strikeouts in a five-inning complete game. Freshman Ella Klop went 3-for-4 with a double, five RBIs and two runs scored while junior Bella Aleman went 3-for-3 with a triple, three runs, three steals and an RBI. Freshman Gigi Aleman went 2-for-4 with a run and a steal, senior Julia Pevsner recorded a home run, three RBIs and two runs, and freshman Anaya Quinonez registered a hit, two RBIs and two runs. Senior Liana Domingo tallied walked three times, scored three runs and stole a base while junior. Vanessa Hernandez recorded three walks and two runs, senior Rebecca Wolyn scored once and stole a base and freshman Ellie Thompson scored once. The Minutemen finished the season tied for fourth place in the Olympic League with a 1-7 record (18-10 overall).

FLINTRIDGE PREP
The Wolves were edged at Los Amigos High in Fountain Valley, 7-6, in a CIF-Southern Section Division VII second- round matchup. Mary Sinclair went 3-for-3 with two doubles, three runs, two RBIs and steals, Emma Carmack went 2-for-4 with three RBIs and a steal and Sienna Liston went 2-for-4 with two runs and a steal. Elise Fong, who had a hit, an RBI, a run and a steal, was stuck with the loss despite racking up nine strikeouts over six innings with no walks. She allowed seven runs (three earned) on seven hits. Eliza Gunter and Alex Von Thaden each tallied a hit and a steal, Jaclyn Sim had a base hit and AstaUziel walked once. Flintridge Prep previously nabbed a 9-7 victory over visiting Hueneme High of Oxnard in a CIF first-round game. The Wolves entered the sixth inning trailing by a run before Sinclair’s bases- clearing double gave the home team an 8-6 advantage. She had a terrific afternoon at the plate with a home run in the first and a double in the fifth to finish 3-for-5 with a game-high five RBIs and a pair of runs. Fong, who had a hit, an RBI and a steal, pitched a complete game with two strikeouts and no walks while Liston went 2-for-4 with a double, an RBI and a run. Carmack tallied a hit, an RBI and a run while Madison Lin produced a hit, an RBI and a walk. Uziel and Gunter each recorded a hit and a run while Sarah Bougdanos walked twice, stole two bases and scored a pair of runs. Flintridge Prep finished the campaign third in the Prep League with an 8-4 record (12-8 overall).

FLINTRIDGE SACRED HEART
The Tologs lost to visiting Oxnard, 3-1, in their CIF-Southern Section Division IV first-round game last Thursday. Junior Megan Milton went 2-for-3 with a double, senior Meghan Garrity went 2-for-4, and junior Meaghan Coyle allowed three runs (two earned) on six hits and no walks with five strikeouts in a complete game effort. Senior captain Charlotte Taylor, senior Ellie McCarthy, senior Cameron Bender and sophomore Ava Nawrocki each had a base hit while junior Abigail Blea scored once. FSHA finished the season as undefeated Angelus League champions with an 8-0 record (17-4 overall).
