Local Athletes Compete in CIF Finals

Individuals from the Mayfield Senior, Polytechnic, Flintridge Prep, Westridge, La Salle, St. Francis, Maranatha high schools’ track and field teams recently competed in the CIF-Southern Section prelims and finals.

MAYFIELD
The Cubs varsity girls’ team competed in the Division IV finals and prelims and finished 16th with 12.5 points. Sissy Page (5-00.00) placed third in the high jump, Leah Whitfield (36-01.25) was fifth in the triple jump, Sade Falese (18-00.25) finished sixth in the long jump and Elizabeth Goethals (92-00) was ninth in the discus. In prelims competition, Monika Vargas (15.92) and Nikki Hensley (17.20) placed 11th and 16th, respectively, in the 100 hurdles. Vargas was 12th in the 300 hurdles with a 49.53 time while also placing 21st in the 200 with a 26.95 time. The relay team of Alyssa Gallardo, Falese, Goethals and Vargas finished 19th in the 4×100 with a 51.51 time. The relay team of Goethals,
Whitfield, Natalie Miera and Cecilia Kvochak was 23rd in the girls’ 4×400 with a 4:31.39 time.

POLY
The Panthers varsity boys’ team competed in the Division IV finals and prelims and finished tied for 33rd with five points as Jonah Goldstein (11-09.00) was fourth in the pole vault. In the prelims, Desmond Rhone (40- 05.25) was 11th in the triple jump. Goldstein finished 15th in the shot put with a 42-02.75 mark while also finishing 25th in the discus with a 110-00 mark.

FLINTRIDGE PREP
The Wolves varsity teams competed in the Division IV finals. The boys’ tied for 23rd with six points while the girls’ tied for 40th with three points. Katharina Zirn (35-04.00) was third in the girls’ shot put while William Bigby (50.93) was sixth inthe boys’ 400. In prelim competitions, Scarlett Coombes was 15th in the girls’ 100 with a 12.74 time while also finishing 15th in the girls’ 200 with a 26.50 time. Jenna Moutes (2:34.21) placed 24th in the girls’ 800. Kevin Martinez was fifth in the boys’ 300 hurdles with a 43.18 time while also placing 21st in the boys’ long jump with an 18-11.00 mark. The relay team of Bigby, Martinez, Ryan Ginn and Declan Mansbridge finished 12th in the 4×400 with a 3:37.89 time.

WESTRIDGE
The Tigers varsity girls’ team competed in Division IV and finished tied for 30th with 4.50 points as Teia Lemmon tied for fourth in the pole vault with a 9-09.00 mark. In the prelims, Sage Kazz (J7-09.00) and Katherine Northrop (7-03.00) placed 15th and 17th, respectively, in the pole vault while the relay team of Isabel De Leon, Esperanza Orozco-Carey, Kaitlyn Hong and Sarah Kong finished 22nd in the 4×400 with a 4:30.90 time.

ST. FRANCIS
The Golden Knights varsity boys’ team competed in Division III and finished tied for ninth with 23 points as Clint Geryak was the pole vault runner-up with a 14- 09.00 mark. Luke Metcalf (4:15.55) and Sam Franco (4:15.97) placed third and fourth, respectively, in the 1,600. Hayden Owen (9:25.42) and Franco (9:29.97) finished sixth and eighth, respectively, in the 3,200. Metcalf (1:59.07) was eighth in the 800 while the relay team of Tyler Cofre, Henry Foley, Aidan Phillips and Drushun Phillips finished ninth in the 4×100 with a 43.54 time. In prelims, Preston Jernigan (49-05.00) was sixth in the shot put while the relay team of Aidan Phillips, William Nightingale, Foley and Metcalf was 15th in the 4×400 with a 3:32.72 time.

LA SALLE
The Lancers varsity teams competed in the Division IV finals and prelims. The boys’ team finished 12th with 14 points while the girls’ team tied for 14th with 13 points. Mia Reid was the girls’ 100 hurdles runner- up with a 14.14 time while also placing fourth in the 300 hurdles with a 45.31 time. Sol Lee (12.41) finished ninth in the girls’ 100 while the relay team of Jocelyn Allen, Sol Lee, Farrah McGarry and Mia Reid finished ninth with a 51.37 time. Alexandro Alvarez finished third in the boys’ 800 with a 1:57.99 time while also placing sixth in the 1,600 with a 4:22.86 time. Thomas Gomez took sixth in the boys’ shot put with a 48-06.00 mark while also placing seventh in the discus with a 123-09 mark. Isaac Magluyan (9-03.00) was ninth in the boys’ pole vault. In prelim competitions, Sol Lee (25.70) finished 10th in the girls’ 200 while Olivia Botanic was 12th in the girls’ 1,600 and the 3,200 with 5:24.66 and 11:57.20 times, respectively. The girls’ 4×400 relay team of Jocelyn Allen, Sol Lee, Giulia Bhatia and Mia Reid was 14th with a 4:17.50 time. Giulia Bhatia (52.62) placed 19th in the girls’ 300 hurdles, Abigail Pejsa (7-03.00) was 19th in the girls’ pole vault and Julianna Munoz (4-05.00) finished 23rd in the girls’ high jump. Kurtis Leong (8-00.00) was 12th in the boys’ pole vault, Athanasios Darlas (113-00) placed 20th in the boys’ discus and Keanu Widjaja (37-11.75) was 23rd in the boys’ triple jump.

MARANATHA
The Minutemen varsity girls’ team competed in the Division IV prelims. Gabrielle White finished 15th in the 100 and the 300 hurdles with 16.89 and 50.81 times, respectively, while Isabella Lieberg (26-02.75) was 23rd in the shot put.
