Five exceptional high school seniors from the Pasadena Unified School District no longer have to worry about college acceptances or college tuition.
They’ve each been selected to receive a four-year full-tuition scholarship from the Posse Los Angeles Foundation.
The Posse Scholars from PUSD include Tiffany Jasso and Minal Saldivar of Blair High School, Christina Leyva of John Muir High School Early College Magnet, Estrella Barcenas and Owen Hom of Marshall Fundamental Secondary School.
These students are among 90 students in the Los Angeles area to receive the prestigious Posse Leadership Scholarship this year from a pool of 2,200 nominees. Each of the recipient scholars will attend one of Posse L.A.’s nine partner colleges and universities across the nation.
“I am incredibly proud of our 2023 PUSD Posse Scholars,” said Superintendent Brian McDonald. “Each of these exceptional students exemplifies the ultimate vision we have for all PUSD graduates. They’re creative thinkers, they’re effective communicators, they’re excited to learn from and work with others, and they’re clearly prepared to become the leaders of tomorrow.”
