The Flintridge Prep varsity girls’ basketball team routed visiting Westridge School, 64-15, in its Prep League opener last Friday.
Senior captain Ashley Chea, who surpassed the 1,000 career point total a few games prior, led with a game-high 23 points, including five 3-pointers, while freshman Maddie Smith racked up 22 points. Sophomore Gigi Mastras registered nine points, freshman Akemi Fu finished with four points, and junior Kassidy Huie, sophomore Olivia Childs and freshman Pressley Huie each had two points.
The Wolves lost their first game of the season by falling to Rosary Academy of Fullerton, 70-45, in their Covina Classic finale on Saturday, as Chea registered 23 points.
Flintridge Prep defeated Valley View High of Moreno Valley, 73-63, in a tournament game last Thursday. Smith amassed 24 points while Chea racked up 23 points.
The Wolves defeated Wilson High of Hacienda Heights, 62-49, in a tournament game last Wednesday, as Smith recorded a double-double with 23 points and 10 rebounds. Chea poured in 20 points while Fu tallied nine points and 10 boards.
Flintridge Prep remained undefeated after routing Sierra Vista, 65-16, for a second time this season in its tournament opener on last Monday. Senior captain Ashley Chea amassed a game-high 26 points, freshman Maddie Smith recorded 13 points and eight rebounds, and freshman Akemi Fu finished with three points and 10 rebounds.
The Wolves defeated visiting Mark Keppel High of Alhambra, 65-61, in a nonleague game. Chea poured in 34 points, Smith racked up 14 points and Fu tallied 11 points. Sophomore Olivia Childs finished with four points, while junior captain Izzie Chan had two points.
Flintridge Prep previously pummeled Milken High of Los Angeles, 86-27, in their home opener, as Chea racked up 32 points. Smith tallied 16 points, Fu recorded 11 points and Childs registered nine points. Freshman Pressley Huie tallied eight points, Chan finished with six points and sophomore Gigi Mastras had four points.
The Wolves (9-1 overall, 1-0 in league) will host Mayfield Senior in a league game on Friday, Dec. 16, at 5:30 p.m.

LA SALLE

La Salle College Preparatory junior Audrey Chen averaged 18.5 points, seven rebounds and 3.7 steals over four Burroughs tournament games last week.

The Lancers remained undefeated after sweeping its Burroughs tournament competition last week, finishing with a 56-31 victory over Eagle Rock on Saturday.
Junior Audrey Chen posted a double-double with 20 points, 11 rebounds, six steals and two assists while senior Reese Wong racked up 18 points, five assists, one steal and one board. Freshman Julianne Tan registered five points, four rebounds and one steal, sophomore Kaden Cortes finished with four points, five assists, four boards and two steals, and freshman Casey Higgins recorded seven rebounds, two points and one steal. Senior Meghan Christensen tallied four points while junior Avery Ward produced two points, three boards and two steals. Freshman Catherine De Los Reyes had two steals, one point and one assist and junior Aubrey Ramos collected one steal and one assist.
La Salle routed El Camino Real High of Woodland Hills, 52-21, in a Burroughs tournament game last Thursday. Chen racked up 15 points, five steals and three assists while Higgins poured in 11 points with five rebounds and two steals. Wong registered nine points, four steals, three assists and one board while Cortes tallied eight points, two steals, two assists and two rebounds. Ramos finished with three points, two boards and one assist, De Los Reyes had three points and one assist, and Ward recorded seven rebounds, two points and one steal. Tan posted two boards, one steal and one point while freshman Aliyah Casas had two steals and one rebound.
The Lancers opened Burroughs tournament competition by crushing Cleveland High of Reseda, 63-35, last Tuesday, as Chen racked up 23 points, four boards, four assists and three steals. Wong registered nine points, five assists, two steals and two rebounds, De Los Reyes scored seven points, and Ward tallied five points and four boards. Higgins recorded four points, eight rebounds, three steals, one block and one assist, Cortes finished with four points, three boards, three assists, two steals and one block, and Tan posted four points, three rebounds and one steal. Ramos produced three points, one board and one assist, Casas had two points and one steal, and Christensen scored two points.
La Salle previously competed in the El Monte Arroyo tournament and finished with a 52-31 victory over South High of Torrance as Chen posted a double-double with 16 points, 13 rebounds, four assists and one steal. Higgins registered her third double-double in four tournament games with 11 points, 12 boards and one steal. Wong poured in 11 points with three rebounds, two steals and two assists while Cortes registered 10 points, one steal and one board. Tan tallied four points, four assists, two steals and one rebound, Ramos finished with two boards, one steal and one assist, and senior Lauren Cardenas had one rebound.
The Lancers defeated previously unbeaten Glendale, 48-35, in an Arroyo tournament game as Chen racked up 20 points, six boards, five steals and two assists. Cortes poured in 11 points with one steal, one assist and one rebound while Higgins registered nine points, seven boards, two assists and one steal. Wong scored five points with three steals, three rebounds and one assist, Tan tallied three points, three assists and one board, and Christensen and Ramos each had one rebound.
La Salle thumped Schurr High of Montebello, 63-28, in an Arroyo tournament game as Higgins posted a double-double with 12 points, 14 boards and one steal. Cortes registered 13 points, four assists, three rebounds and one steal, Wong racked up 12 points, four assists, one steal and one board, and Chen poured in 11 points with three steals, three assists and three rebounds. Ramos posted eight points, three boards and one assist while Tan recorded six points, four rebounds, one block and one assist. Casas finished with one point and one board, De Los Reyes tallied two rebounds and Christensen had one assist.

Chen poured in 14 points with nine rebounds, six assists and one steal, Wong registered 12 points, four steals and four boards, and Cortes tallied 10 points, three rebounds, two assists and one steal. Ramos recorded eight points, five boards and two assists, Christensen finished with six points, two assists and one rebound, and Tan produced four points, five boards and one assist. Casas posted three points, one rebound and one assist while De Los Reyes had two points, three steals and one board.
La Salle (11-0 overall) will visit La Cañada for a nonleague game on Saturday, Dec. 17, at noon.

POLY

Poly’s Chloe Jeng averaged 10.6 points over three Poly Invitational games last week.

The Panthers hosted their Poly Invitational last weekend and finished with a 1-2 record.
Poly lost to Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy of La Cañada Flintridge, 52-23, last Saturday. Sammie Yen sank three 3-pointers, Paige Lim scored seven points, Kamryn Chan registered four points and Chloe Jeng tallied three points.
The Panthers defeated San Marino, 51-33, in a Poly Invitational game last Friday. Lim racked up 18 points while Jeng poured in 14 points. Chan scored seven points while Alex Lentz and Yen each registered six points.
Poly was edged by Agoura, 43-42, in their tournament opener last Thursday, as Jeng poured in 15 points. Lim registered eight points, Chan recorded seven points, and Yen and Akira Brown each scored two points.
The Panthers routed Westridge School, 65-19, in their Prep League opener last Tuesday. Jeng racked up 23 points, Lim poured in 17 points and Luciana Piro recorded 15 points.
Poly previously competed in the San Marino tournament and finished with a 3-1 record as Lim was selected to the all-tournament team.
The Panthers defeated Flintridge Sacred Heart, 50-43, in their tournament finale as Lim scored 17 points. Piro and Yen each registered 11 points, Chloe Jeng tallied nine points and Brown had two points.
Poly defeated Arleta, 44-33, in a tournament game as Lim led the team with 22 points. Yen registered 11 points, Piro sank a pair of threes, Jeng produced four points and Brown scored one point.
The Panthers lost to Burbank, 58-38, in a tournament game as Jeng posted 12 points while Lim registered 10 points. Piro finished with seven points, Yen scored five points and Lentz had four points.
Poly previously opened the San Marino tournament with a 48-30 victory over Bishop Conaty-Loretto High of Los Angeles. Lim racked up 22 points, Jeng recorded 13 points and Yen scored six points.
The Panthers (6-3 overall, 1-0 in league) will compete in the Burroughs tournament in Burbank following the holiday weekend on Monday, Dec. 26.

FLINTRIDGE SACRED HEART

Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy senior captain Sophia Heredia averaged 7.6 points, 5.6 rebounds, three steals and three assists over three Poly Invitational games last week.

The Tologs recently competed in the Poly Invitational and finished with a 52-23 victory over tournament host Polytechnic on Saturday. Sophomore Ava Nawrocki amassed 18 points, seven rebounds, seven assists, six steals and two blocks. Senior captain Sophia Heredia poured in eight points with six boards, five steals and four assists while sophomore Sophia Astacaan registered eight points, five rebounds and one steal. Junior Isabelle Risha finished with five points, seven boards, one block and one steal, senior Meghan Garrity tallied five points and one rebound, and freshman Grace Adair recorded two points, four boards and one block. Freshman Isabella Hagobian posted two points, one rebound, one block and one steal, freshman Lori Yacoubian produced two points and two steals, senior Ella Rogers scored two points, and senior Cassie Huston had two boards and one steal.
FSHA defeated Bloomington, 51-28, to collect its first Poly Invitational win last Friday, as Risha racked up 16 points, six rebounds and one steal. Garrity poured in eight points with six steals, Nawrocki registered seven points, six steals, five boards and two assists, and Heredia finished with seven points, five rebounds, five assists and two steals. Yacoubian recorded six points, four steals and one board, Astacaan tallied four points and four rebounds and Rogers posted three points and three boards. Senior Siena Urquiza produced two rebounds, two steals and one assist, Hagobian had one board and two steals, Adair collected two rebounds and junior Sophia Durand had one board.
Flintridge Sacred Heart opened with a 48-41 loss against Holy Martyrs Armenian High of Encino in the Poly Invitational last Thursday, as Nawrocki racked up 17 points, five rebounds, five assists and two steals. Heredia poured in eight points with six boards and two steals while Astacaan registered six points and seven rebounds. Hagobian scored five points, Rogers tallied four points and three boards, and Risha finished with five rebounds and two steals. Yacoubian collected four boards, Garrity scored one point and Adair had one rebound.
The Tologs previously competed in the San Marino tournament and finished fourth with a 2-2 record. Heredia was named to the all-tournament team after averaging over six points, seven rebounds, three assists and three steals in four games.
FSHA lost its tournament finale against Polytechnic, 50-43, as Nawrocki amassed 16 points, seven steals, seven boards and three assists while Astacaan poured in 10 points with four boards. Garrity registered seven points, three rebounds and one steal, Heredia racked up five points, seven boards and four assists, and Risha finished with three points and nine rebounds. Rogers tallied two points, two boards and one steal, Adair had one steal and Hagobian collected one assist.

Adair tallied four points and three rebounds, Garrity had two points, three boards and two steals, and Hagobian posted two points, three steals, three assists and one rebound.

Urquiza posted two steals and one rebound, Adair had two points, one steal and one assist, and Durand had one board.

Nawrocki poured in 10 points with four boards, three assists and one steal while Astacaan registered eight points, four rebounds and one steal. Heredia finished with three points, 11 boards, three steals and two assists while Hagobian tallied two points, one steal and one assist. Garrity recorded four rebounds and one assist, Urquiza collected two boards and Adair had one rebound.
FSHA (6-7 overall) will host its tournament beginning on Tuesday, Dec. 27.

MAYFIELD SENIOR

Mayfield Senior junior Annika Mashiko scored three points in a nonleague game against Roosevelt High of Los Angeles last week.

The Cubs snapped a two-game losing streak by defeating visiting San Gabriel Academy, 42-34, in a nonleague game last Thursday. Sophomore Christine Ellis racked up 13 points while junior Erin Michelena poured in 12 points. Junior Maia Mashiko registered five points while junior Elisa Milkie, sophomore Jenna Domingo and sophomore Kristen Awakuni each scored four points.
Mayfield lost to visiting Roosevelt High of Los Angeles, 32-29, in a nonleague game last Tuesday, as Jenna Domingo and Ellis each registered eight points. Awakuni and Milkie each tallied four points, junior Annika Mashiko scored three points and junior Mia Aguilar had two points.
The Cubs previously competed in the San Marino tournament and finished with a 1-3 record.

Milkie produced six points, Maia Mashiko and Jenna Domingo each scored five points, and junior Maddie Domingo recorded three points. Senior Yasmeen Elrabat and Awakuni each tallied two points while Aguilar had one point.

Mayfield lost to Orangewood Academy High of Garden Grove, 72-20, in a tournament game. Michelena scored six points, Jenna Domingo tallied five points, Maddie Domingo finished with three points, and Maia Mashiko, Awakuni and Milkie each scored two points.
The Cubs previously lost their tournament opener against Arleta, 47-10. Jenna Domingo recorded six points while Aguilar and Michelena each scored two points.
Mayfield (3-6 overall) will visit Flintridge Prep in La Cañada Flintridge for its Prep League opener on Friday, Dec. 16, at 5:30 p.m.

MARANATHA

Maranatha’s Lori Derderian scored two points in a tournament game against Santiago High of Garden Grove last week.

The Minutemen competed in a pair of tournaments over the past two weeks, most recently losing to Santiago High of Garden Grove, 61-55. Lara Kasbarian racked up 22 points, seven rebounds, three steals and two assists while Lori Derderian poured in 12 points with two steals and two assists. Charlotte Yee registered seven points and one board, Pressley Tanaka tallied five points and five rebounds, and Anna Khroian finished with four points and three boards. Danielle Babikian posted three points and one rebound, Aleen Avanessian recorded two points, two steals and two boards, and Clair Timour had a pair of rebounds.
Maranatha lost a tournament game against Yucaipa, 60-21, as Kasbarian poured in 10 points with three boards and one assist. Avanessian registered four points, two rebounds, one block and one steal, Derderian tallied three points, one steal and one assist, and Kayla Sartin collected nine boards, four steals and one block. Yee recorded two points, one steal and one rebound, Babikian scored two points with one steal, Tanaka had two steals and one board, and Bella Aleman tallied one rebound.
The Minutemen lost to Verdugo Hills High of Tujunga, 52-33. Tanaka registered 11 points while Derderian scored nine points. Kasbarian tallied seven points, Babikian produced three points, and Avanessian, Yee and Timour each had one point.
Maranatha lost a tournament game against Granada Hills Charter High, 69-12. Avanessian scored eight points with one board while Yee registered three points and two rebounds. Kasbarian finished with one point, three boards, one steal and one assist, Derderian collected five rebounds, and Sartin had three boards and one steal.
The Minutemen defeated St. Genevieve High of Panorama City, 61-40, as Derderian racked up 13 points, two steals, two rebounds and one assist. Kasbarian poured in 12 points with four steals, two boards, two assists and one block, Tanaka registered 11 points, four steals, two rebounds and one assist, and Yee scored 10 points with three boards. Babikian finished with five points, two steals, two rebounds and one assist, Sartin tallied four points, nine boards, two steals, one block and one assist, Khroian recorded three rebounds and Timour had one board.
Maranatha defeated Sultana High of Hesperia, 37-27, as Kasbarian led the team with 14 points. Avanessian scored eight points, Yee finished with five points, Sartin and Tanaka each recorded four points, and Derderian had two points.
The Minutemen were previously edged by Providence High of Burbank, 39-37. Derderian poured in 11 points with two steals, two rebounds, one assist and one block while Tanaka registered 11 points, two steals and two boards. Kasbarian scored nine points with six rebounds and one steal, Sartin collected 14 rebounds, two blocks, two assists and one steal, and Avanessian tallied five points, three boards, one block and one steal. Yee had one point and one rebound while Khroian tallied four boards.
Maranatha (4-7 overall) will compete in the So Cal Holiday Classic in San Diego following the holiday weekend.

WESTRIDGE

Westridge sophomore Ariana Epstein scored two points in a Prep League game at Flintridge Prep last week.

The Tigers lost a Prep League game at Flintridge Prep in La Cañada Flintridge, 64-15, last Friday.
Junior Sarah Kong registered six points, freshman Isabel De Leon tallied three points, and senior Jaime Riechmann, junior Erin Lauderdale, junior Evangeline Kuo and sophomore Ariana Epstein each scored two points.
Westridge lost its league opener at Polytechnic, 65-19, last Tuesday. The Tigers previously lost a pair of nonleague games at Immaculate Heart High in Los Angeles, 51-30, and against visiting John Muir High, 46-22. Individual statistics were not reported to the Pasadena Outlook.
The Tigers (1-5 overall, 0-1 in league) will host Rio Hondo Prep of Arcadia in a league game on Friday, Dec. 16, at 5 p.m.
