Flintridge Prep, La Salle Undefeated Through Opening Week

The Flintridge Prep varsity girls’ basketball team opened the regular season by sweeping the Muir Leave A Legacy Tip-Off Shoutout, finishing with a 77-14 rout of Sierra Vista High of Baldwin Park last Wednesday.
Senior Ashley Chea amassed a game-high 34 points, while freshman Maddie Smith poured in 25 points and freshman Pressley scored 10 points.
The Wolves dominated Morningside High of Inglewood, 75-16, on the second day of the Muir tournament last Tuesday. Chea racked up 32 points, while Smith produced 21 points. Pressley Huie, who made her first start, added 10 points. Huie and Smith each recorded 18 points.
Flintridge Prep previously opened the regular season and the Muir tournament with an 80-27 rout over St. Pius X-St. Matthias Academy of Downey, as Chea registered a game-high 29 points.
The Wolves (3-0 overall) will compete in the Covina Classic, which begins on Monday, Dec. 5.

LA SALLE – PHOTO GALLERY

La Salle freshman Casey Higgins averaged a double-double with 10.5 points and 10.7 rebounds to help the Lancers go undefeated in their first four games.

The defending CIF Southern Section Division 3AA champion Lancers picked up where they left off by winning their first four games. La Salle collected its 27th win in its last 28 games dating back to December 2021 after routing Temple City, 66-31, in a nonleague game last Tuesday.
Junior Audrey Chen amassed 20 points, nine rebounds, three assists and one steal, while freshman Casey Higgins racked up 12 points, nine boards, two steals, one block and one assist. Sophomore Kaden Cortes registered eight points, including a pair of 3-pointers, with four rebounds, two assists and one steal, freshman Catherine De Los Reyes finished with eight points, including a pair of 3-pointers, and senior Reese Wong recorded six points, three boards, three assists and one steal. Senior Meghan Christensen had four points, one rebound and one assist, freshman Julianne Tan drained a 3-pointer with seven rebounds and six assists, and junior Aubrey Ramos sank a 3-pointer with three boards and one assist. Junior Avery Ward tallied two points and six boards, freshman Aliyah Casas collected two rebounds and one assist, and senior Lauren Cardenas had one board and one assist.
The Lancers routed visiting Maranatha High, 55-25, in a nonleague game as Chen racked up 17 points, nine rebounds, seven steals, four assists and two blocks. Wong produced nine points, three boards, one steal and one assist, while Higgins tallied eight points, 12 rebounds and one steal. Tan finished with eight points, seven boards, three assists and one steal, while Cortes registered seven points, five rebounds, two steals, one assist and one block. Ward recorded two points, five boards and one block, De Los Reyes posted two points, one rebound and one assist, and Christensen had two points and one board. Casas collected three blocks and one rebound, Ramos had three boards and one assist, and Cardenas had two rebounds.
La Salle defeated host Oakwood High in North Hollywood, 55-40, in a nonleague game. Chen posted a double-double with 19 points, 10 rebounds, four assists and one steal, while Higgins had her second double-double in as many games with 11 points and 10 boards. Ramos recorded a pair of 3-pointers with three rebounds and one assist, Cortes finished with six points, one board, one steal and one block, and Ward notched four points, 12 rebounds and one assist. De Los Reyes scored six points, Tan produced three points and one board, Wong collected five assists and three rebounds, and Christensen had one board.
The Lancers previously opened the nonleague regular season by routing visiting Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy of La Cañada Flintridge, 59-24. Higgins racked up a double-double with 11 points, 12 rebounds, seven steals and two blocks, Cortes led the team with 14 points, including three 3-pointers, while adding two boards, two steals, two block and one assist, and Chen produced 11 points, nine rebounds, five steals and two assists. Tan finished with nine points five boards, two steals, one block and one assist, Ramos had five points, four rebounds and two assists, and Casas tallied five points, three boards and one block. Wong registered two points, seven assists, four rebounds and two steals, while Christensen recorded two points and one board. De Los Reyes had two assists, while Cardenas had one rebound.
La Salle (4-0 overall) will finish the El Monte Arroyo tournament on Saturday, Dec. 3, before competing in the Burroughs tournament on Monday, Dec. 5.

MARANATHA – PHOTO GALLERY

Maranatha’s Kayla Sartin averaged 10.3 rebounds in three Muir Tip-Off Shoutout games last week.

The Minutemen lost to Burbank, 50-40, in their Muir Leave A Legacy Tip-Off Shoutout finale last Wednesday, as Lara Kasbarian led with 18 points, six rebounds and one steal.
Pressley Tanaka registered eight points, four boards, one steal and one assist, Aleen Avanessian finished with five points, three rebounds, two steals and one block, and Charlotte Yee tallied four points and one assist. Lori Derderian posted three points, three assists, two steals and one board, Anna Khroian had two points, five rebounds and one steal, and Kayla Sartin collected eight rebounds, two steals, one block and one assist.
Maranatha posted its second win in as many games after crushing Duarte, 47-25, in a tournament game last Tuesday. Avanessian amassed 17 points, including five 3-pointers, with five rebounds, two steals and one assist, while Kasbarian poured in 15 points with five steals and five boards. Tanaka produced five points, three rebounds and three assists, Derderian sunk a 3-pointer with three assists, two steals and one block, and Sartin registered 14 boards and two points. Danielle Babikian had two points, four rebounds, two steals and one assist, while Yee finished with two points, three boards and one assist. Clair Timour had one point and a pair of rebounds, while Khroian tallied two boards and one steal.
The Minutemen opened the Muir tournament by routing Hoover High of Glendale, 72-9, on Nov. 21. Kasbarian led with 18 points, five steals, four assists and three rebounds, Tanaka racked up 15 points, including four 3-pointers, with three steals, two boards, one block and one assist, and Babikian poured in 11 points, including three 3-pointers, with three steals and two assists. Avanessian registered nine points, seven rebounds, two steals, two assists and one block, while Derderian produced eight points, including a pair of 3-pointers, with eight boards, seven steals and four assists. Yee tallied five points, five rebounds and one steal, while Khroian finished with four points, four boards, one block and one assist. Sartin had nine rebounds, two blocks, two steals and one assist, while Timour posted two points, two boards and one block.

The Tologs finished Keppel tournament action with a forfeit victory after Wilson High of Los Angeles did not appear at the court on Saturday.
FSHA fell to El Rancho High of Pico Rivera, 47-40, in a tournament game on Friday. Senior Meghan Garrity and sophomore Ava Nawrocki each racked up 13 points, while sophomore Sophia Astacaan recorded six points. Senior Sophia Heredia sunk a 3-pointer, senior Jazmin Jones finished with three points and freshman Grace Adair had two points.
The Tologs were edged by Eagle Rock, 40-38, in a tournament game last Wednesday. Garrity led the team with nine points, two rebounds and a steal, Heredia registered eight points and 12 boards, and Nawrocki finished with seven points, five assists, three steals and three rebounds. Adair tallied two points and six boards, while Astacaan had two points and one rebound. Jones had four boards and one steal, junior Madison Long recorded two rebounds, one steal and one assist, and freshman Isabella Hagobian had one rebound.
Flintridge Sacred Heart lost its Keppel Tournament opener against Arcadia, 59-36, last Monday. Nawrocki led with 10 points, six assists, four steals and two rebounds, while Heredia sunk three 3-pointers with nine boards, two steals and two assists. Junior Isabelle Risha registered seven points, 14 rebounds and three assists, while Garrity produced six points and two steals. Astacaan tallied four points and two rebounds, Adair finished with two boards and one steal, and senior Cassandra Huston recorded a pair of rebounds.
The Tologs collected their first win of the season after beating host Mayfield Senior in Pasadena, 54-31, in a nonleague game on Nov. 17, as Risha amassed a double-double with 22 points, 18 rebounds and two steals. Nawrocki registered 10 points, six steals, five boards and three assists, Heredia tallied six points, eight rebounds, five assists, three steals and one block, and Jones finished with five points, six boards and one steal. Garrity recorded five points, four rebounds and two steals, senior Gabriella Rogers had two points, four boards and one block, and Astacaan produced two points and two rebounds. Freshman Lori Yacoubian had two boards and two assists, Adair finished with two points and one steal, and Hagobian notched one rebound.
FSHA previously opened the regular season with a nonleague loss at La Salle College Preparatory in Pasadena, 59-24. Nawrocki led the team with six points, one rebound, one assist and one steal, Huston registered four points, two rebounds and one steal, Heredia finished with three points, six rebounds and two assists, and Garrity had three points, two rebounds and one steal. Jones tallied two points, four rebounds and two steals, Risha produced two points and three rebounds, and senior Siena Urquiza recorded two points, one rebound and one assist. Rogers finished with two points, four rebounds and one steal, Adair posted one rebound and one assist, Hagobian had one rebound and one steal, and Yacoubian had one rebound.
Flintridge Sacred Heart (1-4 overall) will wrap up the San Marino tournament on Saturday, Dec. 3, before competing in the Polytechnic tournament, which begins on Thursday, Dec. 8.

POLY

The Panthers opened the regular season by routing visiting St. Monica Academy of Montrose, 49-7, in a nonleague game.
Sammie Yen led the team with 14 points, while Luciana Piro racked up 10 points. Alex Lentz and Evelyn Kim each registered six points, Kamryn Chan produced five points, and Chloe Jeng and Akira Brown each scored four points.
Poly (1-0 overall) will finish competing in the San Marino tournament on Saturday, Dec. 3, before opening Prep League action with a home matchup against Westridge School on Tuesday, Dec. 6

MAYFIELD SENIOR – PHOTO GALLERY

The Cubs suffered their second straight loss after falling to visiting Ramona Convent High of Alhambra, 53-44, in a nonleague game last Tuesday. Individual statistics were not reported to the Pasadena Outlook.
Mayfield Senior lost a nonleague game against visiting Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy of La Cañada Flintridge, 54-31, on Nov. 17. Junior Elisa Milkie led the team with seven points, while sophomores Christine Ellis and Kristen Awakuni each registered six points. Juniors Annika Mashiko and Erin Michelena each scored five points, while sophomore Jenna Domingo had two points.

WESTRIDGE

The Tigers picked up their first win of the season by defeating visiting Blair, 47-30, in a nonleague game.
Junior Sarah Kong amassed a game-high 22 points while freshmen Isabel De Leon and Angela Li scored eight and seven points, respectively.
Westridge previously lost its nonleague regular-season opener at San Marino, 52-22. Individual statistics were not reported to the Pasadena Outlook.
The Tigers (1-1 overall) will open Prep League action at Polytechnic on Tuesday, Dec. 6, at 5 p.m.
