Local High Schools in Midst of League Competition

The Mayfield Senior varsity softball team shut out visiting Palos Verdes Chadwick, 12-0, in a Prep League game last Friday.
The victory helped the Cubs (7-3-1 overall record, 3-1 in league) widen the gap to two games between themselves and Chadwick for third place in the standings.
Freshman pitcher Jenna Domingo needed only 26 pitches complete four innings with two strikeouts while allowing just two hits. She also scored once and stole two bases on offense. Meanwhile, senior infielder Jamie Pernecky finished 3-for-3 with three stolen bases, an RBI and a run scored, while freshman outfielder Jaz Johnson went 2-for-2 with a double, a walk, six stolen bases, three runs scored and an RBI. Senior outfielder Maria Dilbeck tallied a hit, two runs scored and an RBI, while freshman infielder Penelope Pegram and sophomore catcher Madilyn Domingo each collected a base hit and scored a run. Senior infielder Emily Vargas reached on three walks, stole three bases and scored twice, and senior utility player Caitlin Dopudja scored once.
The Cubs suffered their first league loss at Burbank Providence, falling 5-3 last Tuesday. Mayfield took a 3-2 lead in the top of the sixth inning, but Providence struck back with three runs in the bottom half to ultimately decide the game. Pernecky went 2-for-4 with a double, a run scored and an RBI, while Madilyn Domingo collected two hits, a stolen base and a run scored. Dopudja registered a double in three at-bats, freshman Kennedy Taylor tallied a base hit and a run scored, Jenna Domingo notched a base hit and Vargas was credited with an RBI.
Behind a stellar outing from Jenna Domingo, who pitched 6.2 innings allowing one unearned run on three hits with four strikeouts, visiting Mayfield defeated Flintridge Prep, 12-1, in a league game. She also collected a double, an RBI and a run scored at the plate.
Pernecky finished 2-for-4 with a home run, a double, four RBIs and two runs scored. Dilbeck went 2-for-5 with a triple, three RBIs and two runs scored. Vargas tallied three hits, including a double, with two runs scored, and Madilyn Domingo went 3-for-4 with a walk and a run scored. Johnson registered a double, two runs scored and an RBI, while junior infielder Afton Copeland-Spiegel scored once after reaching on a walk.
The Cubs crushed visiting Marshall, winning 18-2 in a mercy-rule-shortened league game. Mayfield exploded for eight runs in the first inning while adding an additional 10 runs the subsequent three frames. Taylor struck out 11 batters and allowed just one hit over five innings. At the plate, she finished 3-for-3 with two doubles, three RBIs and three runs scored. Pernecky went 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles, three RBIs and three runs scored, while freshman infielder Peyton Pegram collected a double, three RBIs and two runs scored. Madilyn Domingo tallied a double, two RBIs and a run scored, junior outfielder Francesca Agliolo recorded a base hit and two runs scored, and Vargas walked three times, scored once and added an RBI. Penelope Pegram registered an RBI and a run scored, Johnson scored two runs, and Copeland-Spiegel, Dilbeck and Jenna Domingo each scored once.
Mayfield is scheduled to travel to a neutral field to compete in the 15th annual Torrey Invitational against La Jolla Bishop’s School on Thursday, March 24, at 3 p.m.

FLINTRIDGE SACRED HEART
The visiting Tologs scored 20-plus runs in two of their past three games after crushing Muir High of Pasadena, 23-3, in a nonleague game last Friday.
Freshman Ava Nawrocki led FSHA, going 3-for-5 with a double, a triple, five RBIs and four runs scored. Junior infielder Marie Milton collected a pair of doubles, four RBIs and a run scored, while sophomore infielder Megan Milton went 3-for-4 with a double, three RBIs and three runs scored.
Sophomore pitcher Isabela Guerrero, who finished 2-for-3 with three RBIs and three runs, tossed five innings and allowed three earned runs on six hits with six strikeouts. Junior outfielder Charlotte Taylor went 3-for-4 with a double, three runs scored and two RBIs, and senior outfielder Lola Low had a pair of hits, walks and runs scored while adding an RBI. Junior infielder Elizabeth McCarthy produced a double with a pair of RBIs and runs scored, senior captain Victoria Ramirez registered two hits and three runs scored. Junior infielder Meghan Garrity blasted a triple with an RBI and a run scored junior infielder Cassandra Huston recorded a base hit and an RBI. Senior infielder Caitlin Cruz had a base hit and a run scored.
The Tologs crushed visiting Los Angeles Marymount, 13-1, in a Sunshine League game behind Ramirez’s five dominant innings in the circle where she registered six strikeouts, two hits against and one unearned run. She also went 2-for-4 with two RBIs at the plate. Garrity finished 2-for-2 with a triple, two walks, four RBIs and three runs scored. Senior outfielder Maddie Napierala collected a pair of hits, including a double, three RBIs and a run scored. Marie Milton tallied two hits, two RBIs and four runs scored, Low recorded a base hit and three runs scored, Guerrero scored twice and senior outfielder Faith Blea had a base hit.
FSHA won a lopsided league matchup at Los Angeles Notre Dame Academy, 22-0, last Tuesday. Guerrero allowed only two hits over five strong innings with 10 strikeouts, while the offense scored in every inning, including a 10-run outburst in the third inning. Marie Milton went 5-for-5 with three triples, four runs scored and three RBIs, while Nawrocki collected a pair of triples with four RBIs and four runs scored. Senior catcher Olivia Ocon finished 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles, an RBI and a run scored, Garrity tallied a double, a base hit and three runs scored, and Napierala went 2-for-2 with a double, a walk, two RBIs and a run scored. Ramirez had two hits, including a double and a walk, with two runs scored in five plate appearances, Taylor added a base hit and two runs scored, and sophomore pitcher Meaghan Coyle recorded a run scored and an RBI.
The Tologs lost their second straight nonleague home game, this time to Burbank Providence in extra innings, 8-6, last Monday. FSHA held Providence scoreless for five innings before allowing six runs in the sixth. After tying it in the bottom half, the Tologs were blanked for the last three innings while Providence added the deciding runs in the top of the ninth. Blea went 3-for-4 with three RBIs, Napierala tallied three hits, including a double, an RBI and a run scored, and Marie Milton registered two hits, two runs and an RBI. Garrity posted a pair of hits and a run scored, Guerrero had a base hit and an RBI, and Ocon scored once.
FSHA is scheduled to travel to a neutral field to compete in the 15th annual Torrey Invitational against Antioch on Thursday, March 24, at 5 p.m.

WESTRIDGE
The Tigers were shut out by visiting Burbank Providence, 13-0, in a league game last Wednesday. Junior infielder Soleil Ybarra and freshman infielder Rysie Ybarra each tallied a base hit. Westridge was also shut out by visiting Arcadia Rio Hondo Prep, 18-0, in a league game as freshman infielder Emmabella Barragan Martinez registered the lone base hit for the Tigers.
Westridge will remain idle before returning to action for a league rematch at Rio Hondo Prep on Tuesday, April 5, at 3:30 p.m.

FLINTRIDGE PREP
The Wolves won a league game at Chadwick, 11-7, last Wednesday. Sophomore Marissa Halley finished 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored, while sophomore Asta Uziel went 2-for-3 with a triple, three RBIs, two runs scored and two stolen bases. Junior Eliza Gunter tallied a pair of hits, RBIs and runs scored, senior Luna Tobar finished 2-for-3 with a double, two walks and a run scored, and junior Sarah Bougdanos tallied two hits, two runs and an RBI. Sophomore Alex Von Thaden registered a base hit and a run scored, junior Madison Lin had an RBI and a run scored, and freshman Elise Fong scored once.
Flintridge Prep (2-6-1 overall, 1-4 in league) lost a league game to visiting Mayfield Senior, 12-1. Bougdanos collected a pair of hits, including a double and a run scored, while Lin and Tobar each collected a double. Sophomore Ava Burlingame reached once on a walk in three plate appearances.
Flintridge Prep will host Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy in a nonleague game on Wednesday, March 30, at 3:30 p.m.

POLYTECHNIC

Poly junior pitcher Kiara Engstrom has tossed 23.2 innings this season and struck out 50 batters, including two 14 punch out performance against Arcadia Rio Hondo Prep and Pasadena Marshall.

The Panthers suffered their fifth straight loss after falling to visiting Alverno Heights Academy of Sierra Madre, 10-0, in a nonleague game last Friday.
Junior pitcher Kiara Engstrom tossed six innings with 10 strikeouts despite the loss. She also finished 2-for-2 at the plate. Senior captain Chize Obgugo and juniors Michaela Sabbag, Tess Oreck, Vivian Heller and Amy Sessions each notched a base hit.
Poly lost a nonleague game at San Marino, 22-3, last Wednesday. Sophomore Willa Bortz collected a base hit and two RBIs, while Obgugo went 1-for-2 with a double and two runs scored. Heller recorded a base hit and freshman Lyla Pak scored once after reaching on a walk.
The Panthers lost a league game to visiting Arcadia Rio Hondo Prep, 13-0, last Tuesday as Engstrom racked up 14 strikeouts over five innings of work. She also finished 1-for-2 at the plate.
Poly traveled to Burbank Providence and lost a league game, 11-1, as Obgugo went 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored. Engstrom tallied an RBI at the plate and compiled 10 strikeouts over 4.2 innings in the circle.
Poly (1-6 overall, 0-3 in league) will remain idle for 12 additional days before returning to action for a league rematch with visiting Providence on Tuesday, April 5, at 3:30 p.m.

LA SALLE
The visiting Lancers were shut out at Torrance Bishop Montgomery, 17-0, in a Camino Real League game last Thursday.
La Salle defeated visiting Gardena Serra, 15-6, in a league game last Tuesday. Infielder Tati Pisa, pitcher Bella Ferrari and catcher Zoe Thomas each recorded a double and a single, while outfielders Talia Ettinger, outfielder Matea Cepielik and infielder Emily Lavin each had a base hit. Infielder Amber Hernandez had two bae hits and outfielder Jayden VanMeter was credited with a double.
The visiting Lancers won their first game of the season by routing Marshall, 17-1, in a nonleague game. Ettinger blasted a home run, and Pisa collected a double and a triple. The battery of Ferrari and Thomas each tallied a triple and a single, while infielder Amber Hernandez and VanMeter each registered a base hit.
La Salle (2-6 overall, 1-1 in league) is scheduled to visit St. Genevieve of Panorama City for a league game on Tuesday, March 29, at 3 p.m.

MARANATHA
The visiting Minutemen were shut out at La Habra Whittier Christian, 16-0, in an Olympic League game last Tuesday. No individual statistics were reported to the Pasadena Outlook.
Maranatha (1-2 overall, 0-1 in league) is scheduled to visit Cerritos Valley Christian in a league game on Thursday, March 24, at 3:30 p.m.
