St. Francis, Westridge Drop League Contests

The visiting St. Francis High School varsity boys’ lacrosse team opened Mission League play with a loss to rival Loyola High of Los Angeles, 16-8, last Tuesday.
Midfielder Cole Jackson and attacker Josh Jewell each scored twice, while defender Myles Shannon collected a goal and five ground balls. Attacker Axel Gonzalez and midfielder Andrew Giesler each scored once, while midfielder Jojo Ferguson posted one goal and 10 ground balls. Goalies Donovan Sofio and Nick Johnson tallied six and four saves, respectively.
St. Francis (2-5 overall, 0-1 in league) snapped a four-game losing streak by edging visiting Redondo Union High of Redondo Beach, 13-12, in a nonleague game.
Gonzalez, Jewell and Jackson each scored three goals, while attacker Eric Garbo and midfielder Carter Randall each collected a goal. Ferguson tallied two goals and 14 ground balls, while Shannon recorded 11 ground balls. Defender Tyler Nussbaum had four ground balls, while defender Landon Segal and midfielder Dylan Bell each notched three ground balls. Meanwhile, Sofio accumulated 15 saves in the cage.
The Golden Knights are scheduled to host Valencia West Ranch in a nonleague game on Thursday, March 24, at 7 p.m.

WESTRIDGE
The visiting Tigers lost a Prep League matchup at Palos Verdes Chadwick, 12-9, last Tuesday as Sarah Leizman registered her second consecutive five-goal performance. Gabrielle Carre added two goals, while Jacqueline Pearce and Elena Ruiz each scored once.
Westridge (1-6 overall, 0-2 in league) collected its first win of the season by crushing visiting S
Baldwin Park Sierra Vista, 18-1, in a nonleague game recently Leizman posted five goals. Carre had three while Ruiz, Maya Hale and Ari Epstein each scored two goals.
The Tigers are scheduled to host Beverly Hills in a nonleague game on Wednesday, April 6, at 4 p.m.
