Robert Hansen Jr.

Robert “Rob” Edward Hansen, Jr., D.D.S. of Pasadena passed away suddenly on September 22, 2022, from cardiac arrest at just 60 years old.

Rob was born in Los Angeles on July 4, 1962, to Robert “Bob” Hansen, M.D., and Linda Swanson Hansen, and raised in La Cañada Flintridge. A second generation native to Southern California, Rob attended Glendale Academy and Flintridge Preparatory School; a Prep tradition which continued with his sons, Bobby ’18 and Jay ’20.

After graduating from Prep in 1980, Rob attended Pacific Union College and Loma Linda University earning a Bachelor of Science in neuro psychology, with a minor in religion. He was then recruited into Army Intelligence where he served as an intelligence analyst at Fort Huachuca, Arizona, until 1989.

In 1992, Rob earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery at the University of Southern California. Within a few years, he established a successful dental office in Pasadena where he practiced for more than 20 years. He cared deeply about his patients and developed meaningful connections, friendships, and communications with them, many of which spanned over decades.

In 1996, Rob married Leslie Elizabeth “Beth” Fishbein, a neighbor and Westridge classmate of his sister Kirsten. Beth is the daughter of Gerald Fishbein and Millicent Reynolds of La Cañada Flintridge.

Rob was very active in the community and supported numerous local nonprofits including: Flintridge Preparatory School, the Pasadena Symphony/Pops, Westridge School, Huntington Hospital, Five Acres, the Pasadena Playhouse, the Huntington Gardens, Young and Healthy, Children’s Hospital, the Music Center and Boys & Girls Club.

He was known by all those who loved him to have an insatiable curiosity about the world, which was continuously fed by a bountiful diet of books, news, documentaries and lectures, as well as a deep love of storytelling. His stories were always told with great gusto and wonderful humor that would entertain and engage any listener. Rob had the extraordinary ability to find the fun and the funny in all of life’s situations. His intelligence, humor and kindness will forever be missed by all who knew him.

Rob is survived by his wife, Beth; their sons, Bobby and Jay; sister Kirsten (Allen Shay); mother Linda Hansen; father Bob Hansen (Brenda); in-laws Gerald Fishbein, Millicent Reynolds and Mark Fishbein (Shelley); as well as several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
