Sally Shaffer Wood

Sally was born in Glendale, CA to Marvis and Lauren Cary Shaffer.  She lived her entire life in the Pasadena area.  Sally attended Daniel Webster Elementary School, John Marshall Secondary School, Pasadena City College and graduated from the University of Southern California where she was a member of the Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority.  Sally started her career as a buyer for Bullock’s Pasadena and later taught Kindergarten at Rockdale Elementary School until she met the love of her life, Horace Phelps Wood, II.  Sally and Phelps were married in 1956 at St. Felicitas and Perpetua Catholic Church.  They lived in San Marino for 11 years before moving to Chapman Woods where she spent the next 55 years raising and watching over her growing family. Sally passed away peacefully in the family home with her family by her side. 

Sally was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother.  Her grandchildren affectionately called her Happy Huggy.  Her most beloved hobby was her family!  Sally spent endless hours in service to Mayfield Junior & Senior Schools, Christ Child Society and Junior League of Pasadena. Sally’s Catholic faith was very important to her, and she was an active parishioner at Sts. Felicitas and Perpetua for over 73 years. 

Sally is survived by her children: Lauren Ann Wood, Horace Phelps (Athena) Wood, III, Sarah Wood (Kenneth) Berg, Warren Walker Wood II and Joseph Cary Wood.  She is survived by her grandchildren:  Christina Brown, Sarah and Michaela Wood; Erin, Kenny and Caroline Berg; and Christian, Nathan and Hudson Wood.  She is also survived by her brother Lauren Cary Shaffer II.  Sally was preceded in death by her husband Phelps, her daughter Marvis Ann Wood and her sister Suzanne Shaffer.
