Local Squads Ready for Playoffs Next Week

The Polytechnic varsity boys’ volleyball team suffered its first loss of the season at the hands of host San Gabriel, 19-25, 28-26, 25-20, 25 22, in a nonleague match last Friday. The Panthers previously posted a pair of Prep League wins on the road at Flintridge Prep (23-25, 25-12. 25-17, 25- 21) and Palos Verdes Chadwick (25-9, 25-8, 25-18) after winning a five-set thriller against visiting Providence High of Burbank (25-15, 15-25, 25-20, 15-25, 15-7). Individual statistics were not reported to the Pasadena Outlook. First-place Poly (14-1 overall, 6-0 in league) hosted Chadwick for its regular- season finale yesterday; the match ended after the Pasadena Outlook’s press deadline. The CIF-Southern Section playoff brackets will be released on Saturday, April 22, at 11 a.m.

FLINTRIDGE PREP
The Wolves lost to visiting Polytechnic, 23-25, 25-12. 25-17, 25-21, in a Prep League match last Thursday. Jake Matsumoto registered 13 assists while Preston Chen tallied nine assists. Kerry Ji produced eight kills while Daniel Choi finished with seven kills. Kyle Yun collected five kills, Matthew Wang recorded three kills and Zachary Tsai had two kills. Flintridge Prep was recently swept at Rio Hondo Prep in Arcadia in a league matchup, 25-22, 25-18, 25-21. Yun tallied eight kills while Ji recorded seven kills. Dylan Choi finished with five kills, Daniel Choi produced four kills and Wang had two kills. The Wolves were previously swept at Providence High in Burbank in a league match, 25-20, 25-19, 26-24. Individual statistics were not reported to the Pasadena Outlook. ST. FRANCIS
The Golden Knights defeated host Oak Park, 25-16, 25-17, 25-27, 25-22, in a nonleague match last Tuesday. Senior captain Gabe Metcalf racked up 29 assists, nine digs, one kill, one ace and one block for the Golden Knights while junior Titus Rodz registered 14 kills, 10 digs, two blocks and one assist. Senior Travis Brown tallied 13 kills, three blocks, three digs and one assist while sophomore Ryan Bender produced 12 kills, five blocks, four digs and one assist. Senior captain James Clapp recorded seven kills, seven digs, two blocks and one assist while junior Will Martinez finished with three kills, three blocks and one dig. Senior Blake Welsh produced four blocks, two kills, two assists and one dig, senior Aidan Joel Lopez made nine digs, and senior Trevor Shackleton collected eight digs, six assists and two aces. Second place SFHS (24-6 overall, 4-1 in league) will conclude the regular season by competing in the Redondo Classic this weekend. The CIF-Southern Section playoff brackets will be released on Saturday, April 22, at 11 a.m.

MARANATHA
The Minutemen swept visiting Whittier Christian High of La Habra, 25- 11, 25-11, 25-15, in an Olympic League match on April 6; individual statistics were not reported to the Pasadena Outlook. Second-place Maranatha (11-6 overall, 5-2 in league) visited Heritage Christian High in Northridge for its regular season finale on Tuesday; the match ended after the Pasadena Outlook’s press deadline. The CIF-Southern Section playoff brackets will be released on Saturday, April 22, at 11 a.m.

The Lancers were recently swept in a pair of Del Rey League road matchups against Cathedral High in Los Angeles and Paraclete High in Lancaster.
