Maranatha, FSHA, Poly Win Season Openers

The Mayfield Senior varsity softball team collected its first win of the season at Alverno Heights Academy in Sierra Madre, 8-5, in a nonleague game last Thursday.
Sophomore Jenna Domingo pitched a complete game with four strikeouts while allowing five runs (one earned) on four hits and a walk. She also went 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles, an RBI and a run at the plate.
Junior Madilyn Domingo went 3-for-3 with a home run, a triple, a double, three runs scored and two RBIs while freshman Mackenzie Taylor went 2-for-4 with a triple, an RBI and two runs. Sophomore Kennedy Taylor recorded a base hit and an RBI, sophomore Chloe Cobian and freshman Bridgette Carroll each finished with a base hit and a run, and sophomore Peyton Pegram, sophomore Sophia Page and freshman Hannah Alfaro each had a base hit.
The Cubs previously lost their season opener at South Pasadena, 12-2. Kennedy Taylor went 2-for-2 with a pair of RBIs and a walk while Madilyn Domingo went 2-for-3 with a run. Mackenzie Taylor, who struck out three batters in five innings of work, recorded a base hit and scored once while Jenna Domingo and Carroll each had a hit.
Mayfield will host Los Angeles Sacred Heart of Jesus in a nonleague game today at 3:30 p.m. before hosting Westridge School in its Prep League opener on Tuesday, Feb. 28.

Maranatha junior Vanessa Hernandez tossed a complete game with 11 strikeouts to help the Minutemen defeat Hoover High in their season opener last week.

MARANATHA

The Minutemen crushed visiting Hoover High of Glendale, 10-2, in their season opener last Thursday.
Junior Vanessa Hernandez tossed a complete game with 11 strikeouts while allowing two earned runs on five hits and six walks. She also went 2-for-2 with a double and a pair of intentional walks at the plate. Freshman Evangelina Aleman went 3-for-4 with a three-run home run, drove in another run on a double and scored twice while senior Julia Pevsner went 2-for-4 with a triple, a double and a run. Freshman Anaya Quinonez went 3-for-4 with three stolen bases and a pair of runs while junior Bella Aleman went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs and an RBI. Senior Rebecca Wolyn finished with a base hit, an RBI and two stolen bases, freshman Ella Klop tallied a base hit and a run, and sophomore Gabby Gill recorded a pair of stolen bases and scored twice as a courtesy runner.
Maranatha (1-0 overall) will host Pasadena for a nonleague game Thursday at 3:30 p.m. before visiting La Salle College Preparatory for a nonleague game on Monday, Feb. 27.

FLINTRIDGE PREP

The Wolves routed host Pasadena, 13-2, in a nonleague game last Thursday as Elise Fong pitched a five-inning complete game with five strikeouts while allowing a pair of earned runs on two hits and two walks. She also drove in a pair of runs and scored once at the plate.
Asta Uziel went 3-for-4 with a double and three runs while Sarah Bougdanos went 2-for-3 with two runs and an RBI. Emma Carmack and Madison Lin each registered a base hit, two RBIs, a run and a walk while Mary Sinclair recorded a base hit, three runs and a walk. Ava Burlingame walked and scored once while Kelsey Lin scored once.
Flintridge Prep was previously edged in its season opener at Alverno Heights Academy in Sierra Madre, 6-5. Fong struck out five and allowed two hits over 4.1 scoreless innings in the circle while going 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run at the plate Eliza Gunter went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run, Burlingame went 2-for-3 with a run, and Sinclair doubled home a pair of runs. Madison Lin registered two hits, Emma Carmack and Alex Von Thaden each finished with a base hit and a run, and Uziel recorded a base hit, a walk and an RBI.
The Wolves (1-1 overall) will host South Pasadena on Friday, Feb. 24, at 3:30 p.m. before hosting Desert Christian High of Lancaster on Tuesday, Feb. 28.

FLINTRIDGE SACRED HEART

The Tologs edged visiting Providence High of Burbank in extra innings, 6-5, in their regular-season opener last Thursday.
Junior Meaghan Coyle pitched an eight-inning complete game with six strikeouts while allowing 10 hits, five runs and three walks. Senior captain Charlotte Taylor went 2-for-4 with a run while senior Carly Crossland knocked in an RBI with a double. Senior Cameron Bender and sophomore Ava Nawrocki each recorded a hit and a run, freshman Juliette Smith finished with a hit and an RBI, and senior captain Marie Milton recorded a base hit. Junior Abigail Blea collected an RBI and scored once while senior Meghan Garrity and junior Megan Milton each added a run.
FSHA (1-0 overall) will visit San Marino for a nonleague game on Friday, Feb. 24, at 3:15 p.m. before hosting Sierra Vista High of Baldwin Park for a nonleague game on Tuesday, Feb. 28.

WESTRIDGE

The Tigers were edged by visiting Marshall High of Pasadena, 12-11, in their season opener last Wednesday.
Sophomore Marysa Ybarra drove in a game-high five RBIs, tripled and scored a run while also striking out four batters across three innings in the circle. Junior Julia Hughes went 4-for-4 with two runs, a stolen base and an RBI while senior Soleil Ybarra went 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles and a run. Junior Jade Ilas blasted a solo home run while junior Audrey Anguiano tripled in a run and scored once. Junior Ashley Zhang, sophomore Reed Dietrick and freshman Zoe Taylor each recorded a base hit and a run, sophomore Lilah Rangel struck out one over two innings and scored a run on offense, and sophomores Eliza Lin-Stevens and Amanda Garcia each scored once.
Westridge (0-1 overall) will host Providence High of Burbank in its Prep League opener on Friday, Feb. 24, at 3:30 p.m. The Tigers will then travel to Mayfield Senior for a league game on Tuesday, Feb. 28.

POLY

The Panthers defeated visiting La Salle College Preparatory, 10-2, in their season opener last Thursday. Individual statistics were not reported to the Pasadena Outlook.
Poly (1-0 overall) will visit Marshall High in Pasadena for a nonleague game on Friday, Feb. 24, at 3:15 p.m., before hosting Rio Hondo Prep of Arcadia for their Prep League opener on Tuesday, Feb. 28.

LA SALLE

The Lancers lost at Polytechnic, 10-2, in their season opener last Thursday. Individual statistics were not reported to the Pasadena Outlook.
La Salle (0-1 overall) will visit St. Monica High in Santa Monica for its Camino Real League opener Thursday at 3:30 p.m. before hosting Maranatha High in a nonleague game on Monday, Feb. 27.
