La Salle Wins Burbank Burroughs Tournament

The La Salle College Preparatory varsity boys’ soccer team remained undefeated and won the Burbank Burroughs tournament after blanking Crescenta Valley High of La Crescenta, 1-0, in the championship game on Saturday.
Caden Brown scored the deciding goal on an assist by Corvelo while goalie Julian Gomez racked up eight saves to preserve the shutout in the championship game.
Cabral Corvelo, Mak Hadziomanovic and Thomas Espinoza were selected for the all-tournament team.
The Lancers edged Sylmar, 2-1, in the semifinals last Wednesday, as Espinoza registered one goal and one assist. Hadziomanovic scored once, Myles Pryor-Gainey was credited with an assist and Gomez recorded six saves.
La Salle beat North Valley Military Institute of Sun Valley, 2-1, to sweep pool play last Monday. Espinoza scored a pair of goals, Mario Cassina and Hadziomanovic each tallied one assist, and Gomez had one save.
The Lancers blanked host Burroughs High in Burbank, 2-0, in a pool play, as Elias Alvarado and Christopher Bahou each tallied one goal. Espinoza and Cassina were each credited with an assist while Gomez posted four saves.
La Salle edged La Cañada, 5-4, to open tournament pool play. Corvelo and Hadziomanovic each produced a pair of goals and one assist while Pryor-Gainey recorded one goal. Cassina posted two assists, Espinoza tallied one assist, and Gomez and Noah An each had three saves.
The Lancers previously opened the regular season by edging visiting Flintridge Prep of La Cañada Flintridge, 4-3. Corvelo registered two goals and one assist while Hadziomanovic finished with two goals. Tomas Posada-Awad and Cassina each produced one assist, Gomez recorded two saves and An had one save.
La Salle (6-0 overall) will visit Pasadena for a nonleague game on Tuesday, Dec. 20, at 3:30 p.m.

POLY

The Panthers lost a nonleague game at Maranatha, 4-1, last Thursday. James Onderdonk scored one goal, James Gomez tallied one assist and Jonah Goldstein had four saves.
Poly routed host Providence High in Burbank, 5-0, in a Prep League game last Tuesday, as Gomez registered a hat trick. Jessie Benitez produced one goal and one assist while Warren Peng was credited with an assist. Providence gave Poly a greater advantage by recording an own goal.
The Panthers blanked host Palos Verdes Chadwick, 2-0, to open league action last Monday. Joe Benitez and Junaid Bhatti each scored one goal, Ollie Moltz had one assist and Nathaniel Marko tallied five saves to preserve the shutout.
Poly lost a nonleague game at Glendale, 2-0, as Marko recorded five saves.
The Panthers previously routed host San Marino, 6-0, in their season opener. Parker Gooden registered a hat trick, Moltz scored a pair of goals and Desi Rhone had one goal.
Poly (3-2 overall, 2-0 in league) will host Alhambra in a nonleague game on Friday, Dec. 16, at 3:15 p.m. before visiting Castaic for a nonleague matchup on Tuesday, Dec. 20.

ST. FRANCIS

St. Francis senior Giovanni Nieves scored a goal during a nonleague game at Santa Barbara.

The Golden Knights finished with a scoreless draw at Palos Verdes in a nonleague game last Friday, as freshman Rome Strongin racked up six saves to preserve the shutout.
SFHS lost a nonleague game against visiting Cathedral High of Los Angeles, 4-1, last Wednesday, as junior Luke Wyatt scored on an assist by junior Alex Lopez.
The Golden Knights were edged in a nonleague game at Santa Barbara, 3-2. Senior Giovanni Nieves and junior Mikey McCarthy each scored once to help SFHS build a 2-1 advantage at halftime.
Each team was limited to eight shots on target while both St. Francis goalkeepers, sophomore Tim Murphy and Strongin, each recorded one save
The Golden Knights previously opened the regular season by blanking visiting Flintridge Prep, 2-0. After a scoreless first half, Lopez and Wyatt each found the back of the net to help propel St. Francis to a season-opening victory.
SFHS (1-2-1 overall) will host rival Loyola High of Los Angeles in a Mission League matchup on Friday, Dec. 16, at 5 p.m.

MARANATHA

The Minutemen competed in the Monrovia tournament, finishing the second day with a 2-0 loss against Leuzinger High of Lawndale last Saturday. Junior Lorenzo Rodriguez recorded three saves while the Minutemen’s offense combined for four shots on goal.
Maranatha was edged by King/Drew High of Los Angeles, 1-0, to open the second day of tournament play last Saturday. The Minutemen managed 11 shots on goal versus King/Drew’s four while Rodriguez tallied three saves.
Maranatha blanked Monrovia, 1-0, to open tournament play last Friday. Senior Jacob Brantingham scored the deciding goal on senior Jay Lee’s corner kick. The Minutemen produced 11 shots on goal to Monrovia’s six while Rodriguez racked up six saves to preserve the shutout.
Maranatha defeated visiting Polytechnic, 4-1, in a nonleague game last Thursday. Junior George Peterson, who was credited with an assist later in the game, tied it 1-1 in the first half with a goal in the 17th minute. The Minutemen took the lead on a goal by Brantingham in the 64th minute and quickly expanded it with goals by James Wang and Aren Tatevossian in the 69th and 72nd.
Senior Jaden Brainard tallied a pair of assists, Jay Lee had one assist and Rodriguez posted a pair of saves in the cage.
The Minutemen blanked visiting Blair High, 2-0, in a nonleague game last Tuesday. Maranatha previously went on a 0-1-1 stretch after tying host Westlake High in Westlake Village, 1-1, and losing at Glendale, 2-0, in a pair of nonleague matchups.
The Minutemen (5-4-1 overall) will host Flintridge Prep of La Cañada Flintridge in a nonleague game on Friday, Dec. 16, at 5:30 p.m.

FLINTRIDGE PREP

Flintridge Prep junior Leo Ferry registered a pair of goals in the Wolves’ season opener against La Salle College Preparatory.

The Wolves tied host Palos Verdes Chadwick, 1-1, in their Prep League opener last Friday, as senior EQ Willis scored a free kick.
Flintridge Prep picked up its first win of the season after routing visiting Duarte, 7-0, in a nonleague game last Monday. The Wolves were shutout at St. Francis, 2-0, in a nonleague game. Individual statistics were not reported to the Pasadena Outlook.
Flintridge Prep previously lost its season-opener at La Salle College Preparatory, 4-3. Junior Leo Ferry registered a pair of goals while senior Henry Brookbanks scored once. Senior Sean O’Leary, freshman Jonah Rose and Willis were each credited with an assist.
The Wolves (1-2-1 overall, 0-0-1 in league) will visit Maranatha for a nonleague game on Friday, Dec. 16, at 5:30 p.m.
