Prep League champion Mayfield Senior hosted Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy in a Dig Pink match to end the regular season last Friday. The Cubs won a thrilling five-set nonleague matchup over FSHA, 24-26, 25-17, 23-25, 25-11, 15-10.
Annelise Rising collected 15 kills and 19 digs, Audrey Nuckols racked up 15 kills, 10 digs, four blocks and three aces, and Holly Hillman amassed 40 assists, 10 digs and two kills for the Cubs. Kayla Bandow registered nine kills and eight digs, Megan Lee posted four kills, two digs and one block, and Kelsey Babcock finished with three kills and one block. Michelle Guillen recorded 16 digs, two assists and one ace, Kate Grinnell tallied one kill and one assist, and Eva Trujillo and Jessica Choi each had one dig.
The Cubs secured their second consecutive league title after sweeping visiting Providence High of Burbank 25-15, 25-12, 25-20 last Tuesday. It is Mayfield Senior’s third title in the last five years and its first outright title since 2013. Rising tallied 14 kills, nine digs and five aces, Hillman racked up 28 assists, three kills, three digs and one ace, and Nuckols finished with eight kills, five digs, two aces and two blocks. Bandow had six kills and six digs, Grinnell posted six kills and Choi collected 11 digs. Trujillo recorded five assists, one ace and one dig, while Lee produced three kills and one dig. Guillen registered two digs and one assist, Venezia Podesta had two digs and Kaitlyn Espinoza had one dig.
Mayfield competed in the Division II Southern California Invitational in San Diego on Oct. 7-8, finishing with a 3-2 record. The Cubs were eliminated in the first round of the gold bracket playoffs after losing a tight match to Saint Joseph High of Lakewood, 29-17, 25-22. Rising finished with nine kills and five digs, Nuckols tallied seven kills and five digs, and Hillman racked up 25 assists and one kill. Bandow collected 10 digs, five kills and one ace, Babcock registered three kills and one block, and Lee posted three kills. Guillen produced five digs, while Choi posted two digs.
The Cubs earned a spot in the gold bracket after winning their play-in match against San Joaquin Memorial of Fresno, 25-16, 25-19, to open the second day of tournament play on Oct. 8. Mayfield Senior won its crossover match against Palm Desert, 25-16, 25-14, to end the first day of tournament action on Oct. 7.
The Cubs lost a pool play matchup against La Jolla, 25-19, 27-25, as Rising produced six kills, five digs and one ace.
Mayfield Senior opened tournament play by defeating Xavier Prep of Palm Desert, 25-13, 22-25, 15-9.
The Cubs clinched the league title after sweeping host Palos Verdes Chadwick 25-12, 25-18, 25-13 on Oct. 6. Bandow finished with eight kills, three aces, two digs, one block and one assist, Nuckols recorded eight kills, five ace and four digs, and Hillman racked up 17 assists, five digs, four aces and two kills. Rising posted four kills, three aces and one dig, Babcock had three kills, one ace and one dig, and Grinnell had two kills. Guillen had nine digs, one assist and one kill, Lee had one kill, one ace and one block, and Trujillo tallied three assists, one dig and one block. Espinoza collected four digs and one assist, Wendy Waite had two blocks, and Choi registered one ace and one dig.
Mayfield Senior previously won a thrilling five-set match at Polytechnic, 23-25, 25-23, 25-16, 23-25, 15-6, as Rising racked up 22 kills, 13 digs, three aces and two blocks. Hillman amassed 50 assists and eight digs, Bandow tallied 15 kills, five digs and two aces, and Nuckols collected 11 kills, nine digs and three aces. Guillen finished with 17 digs, three assists and one kill, while Lee registered seven kills, one ace and one block. Babcock posted one kill and one block, Choi produced two digs, and Grinnell had one block.
Mayfield, which finished as league champion with a spotless 12-0 record (22-6 overall), will open the CIF-SS Division III postseason by hosting Alemany High of Mission Hills (13-4 overall) on Thursday, Oct. 20, at 6 p.m.

The Tologs ended the regular season after narrowly losing at Mayfield Senior in a nonleague Dig Pink match 24-26, 25-17, 23-25, 25-11, 15-10 last Friday.
Senior Nikki Garriola amassed 10 kills and 18 digs, junior Luisa Madrigal racked up eight kills, 10 digs and two blocks, and junior Veronica Udell tallied six kills, three blocks and two digs. Junior Mikayla Hsieh collected 17 assists, 16 digs and three kills, senior Charlotte Taylor registered 11 digs, and sophomore Piper Scherbert posted five blocks, one kill and one dig. Junior Lindsey Du produced nine digs and three assists, while sophomore Ally Du recorded seven digs, seven assists and one ace. Sophomore Sophia Astacaan finished with two blocks, while senior Ellamae Fortin had one dig.
Flintridge Sacred Heart won a thrilling five-set match over visiting Louisville High of Woodland Hills, 17-25, 25-21, 24-26, 25-15, 15-8, in its Angelus League finale last Wednesday. Garriola amassed 19 kills, 21 digs, three aces and two blocks, Madrigal racked up 10 kills, five digs and two blocks, and Scherbert registered eight kills, five blocks and four digs. Hsieh tallied 18 assists, 14 digs, six kills, four aces and four blocks, Ally Du posted 23 assists, nine digs and six aces, Lindsey Du recorded 20 digs, and Taylor had 18 digs and three aces. Udell collected six kills and two digs, while Astacaan finished with one kill, one block and two digs.
FSHA returned to league action and lost at Chaminade High in West Hills 25-21, 25-14, 25-11 last Monday. Garriola collected 12 kills, 13 digs and two aces, Hsieh recorded 11 digs, five assists, one kill, one ace and one block, and Scherbert tallied four kills, three blocks and two digs. Udell finished with four digs, three kills and three assists, Lindsey Du registered seven digs, four assists and one ace, and Taylor had 10 digs. Ally Du posted six assists and four digs, Madrigal produced one kill, one block and one dig, and Astacaan had two digs and one block.
The Tologs took a break from Angelus League action by competing in the Division II Southern California Invitational in San Diego on Oct. 7-8, finishing with a 4-2 record.
FSHA lost its semifinal matchup against South Pasadena, 25-18, 25-19. Madrigal collected eight kills and three digs, Garriola recorded seven kills, four digs and two blocks, and Hsieh finished with 11 assists and five digs. Scherbert posted three kills, Ally Du had seven digs, five assists and one ace, and Lindsey Du produced five digs, two aces and two assists. Taylor registered one ace and two digs, while Udell tallied one kill.
The Tologs advanced to the semifinals by defeating La Jolla High of San Diego, 22-25, 25-21, 15-12. Garriola racked up 10 kills, 15 digs, one ace and one block, Madrigal finished with eight kills and six digs, and Hsieh produced 11 assists, seven digs, one ace and one block. Lindsey Du tallied 10 digs, one ace and one assist, Taylor had six digs, two aces, one block and one kill, and Ally Du recorded six assists and five digs. Udell registered two blocks, one kill, one ace and one dig, while Scherbert posted one block and one dig.
FSHA found itself competing in the silver bracket after losing the play-in match against Flagstaff High of Arizona, 24-26, 25-18, 15-6. The Tologs finished the first day of tournament play by winning a crossover match against Bonita Vista High of Chula Vista, 14-25, 25-20, 15-10.
FSHA finished first in its pool play bracket after sweeping JW North high of Riverside, 25-7, 25-17. Garriola produced nine kills, three digs and one ace, Madrigal tallied five kills and three digs, and Hsieh registered seven assists, five digs and three aces. Lindsey Du had eight digs, three assists and one ace, Ally Du had seven assists, four digs and one ace, and Fortin posted five digs and one assist. Taylor had four aces and two digs, Carney collected two kills and one dig, and Udell recorded one kill, two assists and three digs. Scherbert finished with one kill and one dig, while Keira Limon had one kill.
Flintridge Sacred Heart opened tournament action by sweeping Mt. Carmel High of San Diego, 25-17, 25-20.
The Tologs defeated visiting Immaculate Heart High of Los Angeles, 25-17, 18-25, 25-22, 25-14, as Garriola amassed 16 kills, 24 digs and three aces. Scherbert collected eight kills and two blocks, Madrigal tallied seven kills, and Udell registered six kills and two digs. Hsieh racked up 16 digs, 15 assists, five kills and two aces, Taylor finished with 26 digs and two aces, Lindsey Du produced 18 digs, seven assists and two aces, and Ally Du 16 had assists and eight digs. Limon posted one kill and two digs, senior Emily Smith had one ace and one assist, and Fortin had one dig.
FSHA, which finished as league runners-up with a 6-2 record (21-16 overall), will open the CIF-SS Division III postseason at Torrance (23-5 overall) on Thursday, Oct. 20, at 6 p.m.

POLYTECHNIC

Poly’s Lilie Henry had a kill to help the Panthers win their regular season finale and improve to 15-2 overall.

The Panthers won their regular season and Prep League finale in a thrilling five-set match against crosstown rival Flintridge Prep 25-20, 25-20, 21-25, 21-25, 15-7 last Wednesday.
Emily Wen amassed 65 assists, 19 kills and 18 digs, Cameilia Ding had 12 kills and five digs, and Ellie Chu registered 62 assists, nine digs and six aces. Bekah Hong racked up 16 assists, 15 digs and two aces, while Irina Alsoufiev produced 19 digs, four assists and four aces. Olivia Ip tallied eight kills, four digs and two blocks, while Cyanne Jones had eight kills. Maja Keatley had five kills, three blocks, three digs and two aces, while Tilde Keatley had five kills. Caroline Holdsworth finished with eight digs and three aces, while Kathleen Hollingsworth recorded two kills and one block. Lilie Henry posted three digs, one kill and one assist, while Katie Sam had one dig and one assist.
Poly also won a league match over visiting Westridge School 22-25, 25-17, 25-18, 25-14 last Tuesday. Wen amassed 47 assists, 12 kills, nine digs and two aces, Jones produced seven kills, seven blocks, five aces and two digs, and Ip tallied nine kills and 10 blocks. Hong collected 15 digs, nine assists and two aces, Ding registered nine kills, and Chu had 33 assists and three aces. Holdsworth finished with 12 digs, three assists and two digs, Hollingsworth recorded four kills, two blocks and two digs, and Bella Duncan and Tilde Keatley each had one kill and one block. Maja Keatley posted two blocks and two digs, while Alsoufiev had two digs.
The Panthers previously lost a league match to eventual league champion Mayfield Senior, 23-25, 25-23, 25-16, 23-25, 15-6. Wen amassed 43 assists, 12 kills, 12 digs and three aces, Jones racked up 12 kills, five blocks, three assists, three digs and two aces, and Chu tallied 45 assists, four digs and two aces. Ding registered 12 kills, Hong posted 17 digs, 13 assists and four aces, and Tilde Keatley recorded six kills, two digs and one block. Ip produced five kills and four blocks, Holdsworth collected nine digs and six assists, Alsoufiev finished with seven digs and two assists, and Duncan had two blocks.
Poly, which finished as league runners-up with a 10-2 record (15-2 overall), will open the CIF-SS Division IV postseason by hosting Viewpoint High of Calabasas on Thursday, Oct. 20, at 3:30 p.m.

FLINTRIDGE PREP

Flintridge Prep’s Clara Bassuk recorded three kills to help the Wolves win a Prep League match against visiting Westridge on Oct. 7.

The Wolves lost their regular-season finale in a rivalry match at Polytechnic 25-20, 25-20, 21-25, 21-25, 15-7 last Wednesday. Abbie Callaway led the team with 12 kills and 12 digs, while Jessica Powell tallied a team-high three blocks and seven kills. Amelia Bechthold collected five kills and five digs, Natalia Pradhan had a team-high three aces, and Marissa Halley and Jaleen Tseng each recorded seven digs.
Flintridge Prep lost a league match to visiting Rio Hondo Prep of Arcadia, 23-25, 25-21, 25-21, 25-20, last Tuesday, as Callaway racked up team-high marks in kills (16), digs (19) and aces (four). Powell registered a team-high nine blocks and 12 kills, while Lucy Liu finished with five kills, four blocks and four digs. Halley tallied 16 digs, Candice Huang registered 13 digs, and Clara Bassuk had three blocks.
The Wolves won a thrilling five-set league matchup over visiting Westridge School, 16-25, 18-25, 25-20, 25-13, 18-16. Callaway racked up 15 kills, 11 digs, three aces and two blocks, while Powell collected 10 kills and four blocks. Bechthold tallied six kills, two blocks and two digs, while Halley posted 19 digs. Liu registered four aces and three blocks, while Bassuk had three kills, two blocks and one dig.
Flintridge Prep previously edged host Providence High in Burbank, 25-14, 18-25, 12-25, 30-28, 15-8, as Callaway amassed 26 kills, eight digs and three aces. Powell racked up 18 kills, Tseng finished with 19 digs, and Halley had 14 digs and two aces. Liu recorded three aces and one block, Ashlyn Nam produced nine digs and two aces, and Bassuk registered three kills and three digs.
Flintridge Prep, which finished fifth in the league standings with a 5-7 record (14-9 overall), will open the CIF-SS Division V postseason at Bishop Amat High in La Puente (20-7 overall) on Thursday, Oct. 20, at 6 p.m.

MARANATHA

Maranatha senior Phoebe Lim produced six kills over her last three matches as the Minutemen finished the regular season with a 13-19 overall record.

The Minutemen swept their regular season and Olympic League finale last Monday at Heritage Christian in Northridge, 25-19, 25-22, 25-16. Sophomore Belen Casillas amassed 10 kills, eight aces and 12 digs, while junior Lauren Nguyen racked up 19 assists, 12 digs, three kills and three aces. Senior Jada Dixon tallied three kills and one dig, sophomore Kayla Sartin collected three kills and two blocks, and junior Nicole Timour registered six digs, two kills and one ace. Junior Kira Foster recorded 12 digs and three aces, senior Phoebe Lim produced three digs, one kill and one ace, junior Tori Coates had two aces and one dig, and junior Chidera Abaelu finished with one block.
Maranatha won a league matchup on Oct. 6 against visiting Whittier Christian High of La Habra, 25-16, 20-25, 25-10, 25-8, as Nguyen racked up 30 assists, 16 digs, four kills and two aces. Casillas posted 16 kills, 11 digs and two aces, Timour collected six kills, four aces and 13 digs, and Dixon tallied five kills and one dig. Lim recorded 13 digs, three kills and two aces, while Foster produced 21 digs and two aces. Coates had two digs and one ace, while Sartin registered one block and one dig.
The Minutemen were previously swept in a league match by visiting Valley Christian of Cerritos, 28-26, 25-23, 25-20. Casillas racked up 18 digs and 13 kills, Dixon collected nine kills and four digs and Nguyen posted 30 assists, 11 digs and five kills. Timour tallied five kills, nine digs and two aces, Foster had 15 digs and one ace, and Lim produced two kills, two aces and three digs. Sartin finished with one kill, one block and one dig, while Abaelu recorded two digs.
Maranatha, which finished the regular season third in the league standings with a 3-5 record (13-19 overall), will open the CIF-SS Division V postseason at Quartz Hill (26-6 overall) on Thursday, Oct. 20, at 6 p.m.

WESTRIDGE

Westridge School’s Ashley Zhang tallied two digs last week as the Tigers finished the regular season with an 11-8 overall record.

The Tigers won their Prep League finale at Palos Verdes Chadwick 25-20, 17-25, 26-24, 25-17 last Thursday, as Grace Nelson amassed 23 kills and 22 digs. Jordan Boskovich racked up 47 assists, three digs, two aces and one kill, Lily Johnson registered nine digs, six aces and five kills, and Emery Fishbach tallied seven kills, three digs and one ace. Jade Ilas produced four kills and five digs, Isabel De Leon collected four kills and two digs, and Lucia Flores-Rojas posted 11 digs, three aces and one kill. Willow Nauber recorded two kills, two digs and one ace, while Ashley Zhang had one dig.
Westridge lost a league matchup at Polytechnic 22-25, 25-17, 25-18, 25-14 last Tuesday. Ilas recorded nine kills and four digs, Nelson collected eight kills and six digs, and Boskovich registered 22 assists, three digs and one ace. Fishbach finished with four kills, while Johnson tallied four aces and one kill. Flores-Rojas produced four digs, while Zhang had one dig.

Fishbach collected eight kills and one dig, while Johnson finished with 11 digs, two aces and two kills. Flores-Rojas recorded three aces and one dig, Zhang posted three digs, and Nauber produced one kill.
Westridge previously won a league match against visiting Providence High of Burbank, 25-13, 26-28, 25-22, 25-17, as Nelson amassed 30 kills, 11 digs and five aces. Boskovich collected 52 assists, six aces and six digs, while Ilas racked up 13 kills, 12 digs and one ace. Fishbach had four kills and one ace, Johnson recorded three kills and two digs, and Nauber registered three aces, three digs and two kills. Zhang finished with six digs, while Flores-Rojas produced five digs.
Westridge, which finished the regular season third in the league standings with a 7-5 record (11-8 overall), will open the CIF-SS Division V postseason at Valencia (17-8 overall) on Thursday, Oct. 20, at 5 p.m.

LA SALLE

The Lancers lost their regular-season finale against visiting St. Anthony High of Long Beach 16-25, 25-21, 25-22, 25-19 in a Del Rey League matchup last Thursday. La Salle missed the CIF-SS postseason and finished the campaign with an 0-8 league record (3-23 overall).
