High Schoolers’ Golf Tourney Benefits Foothill Family

First published in the Oct. 6 print issue of the Pasadena Outlook.

Local high school seniors Cider Canon and Ryan Toh saw a growing need for access to mental health services, especially for youth in under-served communities.
They decided to put together a fundraiser and mesh it with something they both love — golf. The two began the immense undertaking of putting on a charity golf tournament Saturday, Sept. 24.
Canon and Toh enlisted friends, family and the community to come together to support kids and families in our community. Between players, sponsors and raffle prizes, the two raised a highly impressive $13,400 for Foothill Family’s life-changing programs.
“We’re here today to play golf and raise money for a great organization, Foothill Family,” Toh said.
“Foothill is a great charity and really spoke to us,” Cannon added. “We’re really happy to be raising money for families in need across the L.A. area.”
Foothill Family reaches nearly 20,000 children and families each year to support those who battle mental health challenges; have suffered from abuse, trauma and violence; or are faced with behavioral health or developmental concerns. The proceeds from this event will benefit Foothill Family’s life-changing programs.
“It’s refreshing and heartwarming to see high school youth who are invested in our mission, are investing in our community and helping to uplift others,” said Steve Allen, chief executive officer of Foothill Family. “We are grateful for Cider and Ryan’s leadership and initiative in raising critical funds that will launch kids and families on healthy journeys.”
TogetherLA was the charity partner, and the event’s Title Sponsor was Chesapeake Advisors/Morgan.
