Las Madrinas Donates $2.5M to Children’s Hospital Endowments

First published in the April 21 print issue of the Pasadena Outlook.

Las Madrinas, an organization dedicated to supporting Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, held its annual meeting in Pasadena in February.
At the meeting, Kristin Techentin Harrison, president of Las Madrinas, presented Bonnie Blackman McClure, chair of the Associates and Affiliates of Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, with a $2.5-million contribution to two Las Madrinas endowments on behalf of the members of Las Madrinas.
The sizeable gift, a record for Las Madrinas, resulted from a year in which 56 families were honored at a combined 2020-2021 ball.
The funds completed the $5 million Las Madrinas endowment for the chief of neurology chair and the Neurological Institute Epilepsy program and represent the beginning of a new $5-million pledge to the Las Madrinas Diagnostic Innovation endowment at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles.
During the meeting, 11 Las Madrinas members were honored for their generosity to the organization. Ann Dobson Barrett, Hilary Esketh Crahan, Diane Trasky Hawley, Alison Shea Knoll, Annabel Darling Montgomery, Jaclyn Allison Hill Quinlan, Alison Lynch Reilly, Anne Milias Ryan, Alison Holland Thompson, Megan Lynch Webber and Shannon Seiter Williamson were recognized.
Their names will be added to the Las Madrinas plaque displayed in the lobby at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, which recognizes the dedication and exceptional commitment of Las Madrinas members to the hospital.
An additional six members were honored with the newly created Las Madrinas Butterfly Plaque, which is designed to recognize the organization’s existing plaque honorees for their continued benevolence.
The Butterfly honorees were Sarah Keller Cox, the late Michele McGarry Crahan, Megan McLeod Hernandez, Sarah Mage Keller, Kathleen Leavey McCarthy and Elayne Griffin Techentin.
Las Madrinas also elected its new board of directors for 2022: Elizabeth Williams Shoemaker was elected president; Nancy McAniff Annick was elected vice president; Kathleen LeRoy Majcher was elected treasurer; Hilary O’Rourke Wynperle was elected recording secretary; Hilary Esketh Crahan was elected corresponding secretary; Allison Reed Dietrick was elected Los Angeles Ball chair; Karen Miller Wicke was elected debutante chair; Alison Lynch Reilly was elected San Marino development chair; Michele Lanctot Waller was elected public relations chair; and Marcie Maloney Newby was elected Pasadena advisor.
