Culinary Event to Benefit Friends In Deed

First published in the April 21 print issue of the Pasadena Outlook.

Agnes Restaurant and Cheesery will host a fundraising event from 6:45 to 9 p.m. on Monday, April 25, benefitting Friends In Deed, a social services agency founded in Pasadena in 1894, which focuses on alleviating the effects of poverty among the community’s most vulnerable citizens.
The event, called “Friends in Cheese,” will bring together a variety of local chefs for an evening of tasty creations, wine and cocktails, with proceeds being donated to the local nonprofit.
Vanessa and Thomas Tilaka Kalb, Agnes’ “head cheese” and executive chef, respectively, have selected several chefs and restaurants that will participate, including Sathia Sun (Union), Teresa Montaño (Otoño), Chris Yang (Yang’s Kitchen) and Eric & Erwin Tjahyadi (Bone Kettle).
Tickets are $100 each, with additional $250 VIP tickets available for early access at 6 p.m., with a meet-and-greet with the chefs and an Agnes Cheesery gift bag.
“This event in honor of Friends In Deed is really special,” said Rabbi Joshua Levine Grater, executive director of Friends In Deed. “We are so grateful to Vanessa and Thomas at Agnes Restaurant and Cheesery, as well as all the participating chefs, for their support of our work in the local community. It really brings our slogan of ‘doing together what we cannot do alone’ to life.”
Funds raised at the event will go to support the agency’s programs, including a food pantry, the Women’s Room, which is a day shelter for homeless and at-risk women, and an eviction-prevention and rental-assistance program.
