Around 150 attendees celebrated National Villages Day on Tuesday, Feb. 15., with Pasadena Village, a community of older adults who support each other while living independently in their homes.
U.S. Rep. Judy Chu, Mayor Victor Gordo, Rose Queen Nadia Chung, the Pasadena Police Department, the San Gabriel Chamber of Commerce, business partners, community organizations, Village members and guests shared in the festivities.
Marking the 20th anniversary of the first village that started in Beacon Hill, Massachusetts, Executive Director Katie Brandon spoke about the growth of Pasadena Village over the past 10 years, and the importance of finding community and support as you age. Chu congratulated Pasadena Village members on creating new opportunities to connect, Gordo extolled the power of volunteerism, and the program ended with a demonstration from Sgt. Padilla and his K-9 companion, Pepa.
