5 Local Schools Return to League Competition

After being idle for over a month, the Westridge School varsity girls’ soccer team returned to action and was edged at Poly, 2-1, during a Prep League game last Wednesday.
Sunday Labrucherie scored Westridge’s lone goal in the second half.
The following day, Westridge (1-8 overall, 0-2 in league) was shut out at Flintridge Prep, 4-0, during a league match.
The Tigers are scheduled to visit Burbank Providence for a league matchup on Friday, Jan. 28, at 3:30 p.m.

MAYFIELD SENIOR
The Cubs recorded two wins on the field while notching a third via forfeit after being idle since mid-December.
Most recently, the Cubs (3-0 in league, 10-1-1 overall) cruised past visiting Chadwick of the Palos Verdes Peninsula, 4-2, during a Prep League match on Friday, Jan. 21. Sonja Smeritschnig scored twice while junior Kaitlyn Gomez and sophomore Mia Cunnigham each posted one goal and one assist. Teammate Ella Gallo finished with one assist.
Mayfield had won its league-opener at Polytechnic, 6-2, on Jan. 13. The Cubs snatched a 5-0 lead at halftime behind two goals from Gomez while teammates Smeritschnig, Gallo and junior Elizabeth Goethals each scored once. Freshman Tessa Neal registered her second career goal in the second half to round out the scoring.
The Cubs recorded their second league victory after Burbank Providence forfeited its match last Tuesday.
Mayfield is scheduled to visit Flintridge Prep on Friday, Jan. 28, at 3:30 p.m.

FLINTRIDGE SACRED HEART
The Tologs returned to action and recorded one win, one tie and two losses in their first four games after being idle for nearly a month. Most recently, FSHA tied host Mission Hills Alemany, 1-1, last Friday. Senior Allison Risha scored once while senior Sophia Ospina was credited with the assist.
The Tologs (3-5-1 overall, 1-2 in league) edged host Los Angeles Immaculate Heart, 2-1, on Jan. 13. Junior Annamaria Vazquez scored the deciding goal on a penalty kick while senior Kelley Timmerman posted the game-tying goal earlier in the first half.
FSHA previously fell at West Hills Chaminade, 6-0, and a week later the Tologs lost at Studio City Harvard-Westlake by the same score. No individual statistics were reported to the Outlook.
FSHA is scheduled to host Chaminade for a league rematch on Saturday, Jan. 29, at 10:30 a.m.

LA SALLE
The Lancers recently shut out visiting Long Beach St. Anthony, 3-0, to open Del Rey League action last Tuesday. Sophomore Madison Boecking had one save to post a shutout win while senior captain Monique Kirland, junior Alyssa Lopez and freshman Jacqueline Montoya each scored once. Meanwhile, junior teammate Julie Lopez posted two assists.
La Salle (2-1-1 overall, 1-0 in league) is scheduled to visit Torrance Bishop Montgomery on Thursday, Jan. 27, at 5 p.m.

MARANATHA
The Minutemen were recently shut out at Cerritos Valley Christian, 6-0, in an Olympic League match last Friday. Earlier in the week, Maranatha (3-5-1 overall, 0-2-1 in league) tied Sun Valley Village Christian, 1-1, in a league match last Tuesday. No individual statistics were reported to the Outlook.
The Minutemen are scheduled to host Village Christian for a league rematch on Friday, Jan. 28, at 5:30 p.m.
