Local Schools Start League Action

The La Salle College Preparatory varsity boys basketball team traveled to Santa Fe Springs and dropped its Camino Real League opener against St. Paul, 79-57, on Monday.
Previously, La Salle (9-8 overall, 0-1 in league) competed in the SoCal Christmas Classic at South Pasadena High School the last week of December. La Salle won its first two games, but the tournament was cut short due to heavy rain causing a leaky roof, according to SPHS head basketball coach Ernest Baskerville.
The Lancers ended their tournament run by defeating Providence Burbank, 70-67, on Tuesday, Dec. 28, after defeating South Gate South East High, 63-47, on Monday, Dec. 27. No individual statistics were reported to the Outlook.
La Salle hosted Los Angeles Salesian for a league game on Wednesday; the result was unavailable by the Outlook’s press deadline.
The Lancers are scheduled to travel to Montebello Cantwell-Sacred Heart of Mary for a league matchup on Friday at 7 p.m.

MARANATHA
The Minutemen were busy but ultimately dropped two of their three games last week, including a close Olympic League game to Cerritos Valley Christian.
Maranatha was edged by visiting North Hollywood Campbell Hall High, 66-64, in a nonleague game on Saturday, Jan. 8, sending the Minutemen on a two-game slide. The day before, Maranatha lost a close league game to Valley Christian, 52-49, on Friday, Jan. 7.
Maranatha recorded its first league victory of the season at La Habra Whittier Christian, as the Minutemen defeated the Heralds, 55-39, on Wednesday, Jan. 5. No individual statistics were reported to the Outlook.
The Minutemen entered their league game with visiting Northridge Heritage Christian on Tuesday, Jan. 11, attempting to snap a two-game losing streak; the result was unavailable by the Outlook’s press deadline.
Maranatha is scheduled to visit Sun Valley Village Christian for a league game on Tuesday, Jan. 18, at 7 p.m.

FLINTRIDGE PREP
The Wolves recently competed in the SoCal Christmas Classic at South Pasadena High School from Dec. 27-29. Unfortunately, the tournament’s final day was canceled due to a leaky roof from the heavy rains.
Flintridge Prep (8-8 overall, 1-0 in league) fell to Santa Monica, 64-43 on Wednesday, Dec. 29m the tournament’s final day. In the second round, the Wolves narrowly defeated Oxnard Channel Islands, 46-44, on Tuesday, Dec. 28. To open the tournament, Flintridge Prep was initially scheduled to play Burbank Burroughs High on Monday, Dec. 27; instead, the Wolves were edged by Murrieta Mesa High of Murrieta, 77-75. No individual statistics were reported to the Outlook.
Flintridge Prep resumed Prep League action by hosting Burbank Providence High on Tuesday, Jan. 11; the result was unavailable by the Outlook’s press deadline. The Wolves are scheduled to visit Palos Verdes Chadwick on Thursday, Jan. 13, at 7 p.m.

POLYTECHNIC
The Panthers dominated Downey Calvary Chapel, 71-31, in their San Gabriel Winter Classic tournament opener on Monday, Dec. 27.
Poly (8-3 overall) made their only game count as the tournament was canceled due to COVID-19 health and safety protocols.
The Panthers were set to open Prep League play last week by hosting Chadwick, but the game was postponed due to health and safety protocols. Instead, Poly is scheduled to host Burbank Providence for its league opener on Friday, Jan. 14, at 7 p.m.

ST. FRANCIS
St. Francis High School’s varsity basketball team recently dropped its Mission League opener at Los Angeles Loyola, 58-53, on Monday, Jan. 10. No individual statistics were reported to by the Outlook’s deadline.
Previously, the Golden Knights (11-3 overall, 0-1 in league) defeated host Woodland Hills Taft High, 59-41, in a nonleague game on Saturday, Jan. 8. Senior shooting guard Buckley DeJardin and senior point guard Jake Goldberg scored 20 and 13 points, respectively.
The Golden Knights looked to rebound at Encino Crespi on Wednesday, Jan. 12; the result was unavailable by the Outlook’s press deadline.
St. Francis is scheduled to continue league play by hosting West Hills Chaminade High on Friday, Jan. 14, at 7 p.m.
