Flintridge Prep Boys, Girls Claim League Titles

The Flintridge Prep varsity boys’ and girls’ swimming and diving teams had a historic day at Polytechnic last Saturday, taking home both Prep League championships.
Despite not winning any individual crowns, the Flintridge Prep girls posted 12 top-three finishes to record 315 points and win their first league crown in 15 years.
Emily Alameddine led the Rebels by placing second in the 100- and 200-yard freestyle events with times of 53.19 seconds and 1 minute, 56.26 seconds. The junior swimmer was also part of two relay teams. Alameddine grouped up with Charlotte Stipanov, Emily Jacobs and Makena Walklett for the 200 medley relay and finished in 1:50.55 for second place. She later teamed up with Devyn Walklett, Makena Walklett and Jacobs for the 400 free relay and placed third with a time of 3:42.47.
Jacobs also won two individual silver medals after placing second in the 200 individual medley (2:14.13) and 100 breaststroke (1:06.33).
Stipanov placed second in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:00.79 and finished the 200 free in 2:03.39 for a bronze medal. She also teamed up with Lara Friedman, Cameron Bielawa and Devyn Walklett in the 200 free relay and placed third with a time of 1:44.93.
Lucy Friedman also turned in a second-place finish after posting a time of 5:35.88 in the 500 free, Paige Nixon was right behind her to take third place in the same event with a time of 5:54.66 and Devyn Walklett finished the 200 IM in 2:14.25 for third place.
The Panthers won seven events and tallied 311 points to finish second in the team standings.
Susannah Laster, who was named co-Most Valuable Swimmer, won the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:52.15 and later posted a winning time of 56.18 in the 100 backstroke. She also grouped up with Katie Hoffman, Kate Fogassa and Grace Carey to win the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:49.82. She was also part of the 400 free relay team that won with a time of 1:49.82, which also included Natalie Clark, Fogassa and Carey.
Carey also had two individual gold medals by winning the 50 (25.11) and 100 free (52.88) events.
Sophia McAfee won the 1-meter diving event with a score of 549.50 and placed third in the 50 free with a time of 25.96. She also grouped up with Hoffman, Naimi and Clark in the 200 free relay and placed second with a time of 1:44.73.
Daria Lenz posted a score of 527.65 in the 1-meter diving event for second place, and Krystal Irwin was third with a score of 463.25.
Fogassa won two bronze medals, placing third in the 100 butterfly (1:02.22) and 100 backstroke (1:02.83).
Mayfield Senior finished fourth in the team standings with 206 points and was led by Kat Lopez, who won the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 59.36 and finished the 100 breaststroke in 1:08.52 for third place. She also helped the Cubs finish third in the 200 medley relay (1:58.57) along with Kathryn McCullough, Sami Pratt and Maddie Lewis.
Sami Pratt contributed a second-place finish after posting a time of 1:01.72 in the 100 butterfly.
Westridge was fifth in the Prep League standings with 106 points and was led by Amanda Tse, who placed third in the 100 free race with a time of 57.41.

The Flintridge Prep boys tallied 394 points to secure their sixth consecutive league championship. The Rebels won six events and were led by co-Most Valuable Swimmer Winston Chen, who won the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:45.98 and 100 backstroke with a time of 52.41.
Chen also helped Prep win two relay events. He teamed up with Brett Bell, Matt Ng and Oliver Brookbanks to win the 200 medley relay (1:40.90) and also won a gold medal in the 400 free relay (3:19.52) along with Ben Brookbanks, Oliver Brookbanks and Bell.
Ben Brookbanks won the 100 free (50.63) and placed second in the 50 free (23.02). He also helped the Rebels place second in the 200 free relay (1:35.33) along with Ryan Huntley, Ian Davies and Ng.
Oliver Brookbanks won the 50 free event with a time of 22.72 and later placed second in the 100 free (50.35).
Brett Bell posted two second-place finishes in the 500 free (4:48.96) and 100 backstroke (54.46) events. Ng also posted two top-three finishes, placing third in the 100 butter fly (57.21) and 100 breast (1:05.31).
Daniel Wang won silver medals in the 200 IM (2:15.18) and 100 breast (1:05.17), and Ryan Huntley also contributed a second-place finish competing in the 100 fly (56.27).
Kasen Barraclough finished the 500 free in 5:21.18 for third.
Pranay Singh, who was the league’s co-Most Valuable Swimmer, won two individual events and helped Poly garner 261 points for a second-place finish in the standings.
He placed first in the 200 individual medley with a time of 1:59.98 and won the 500 free (4:47.20). He also helped the Panthers win two silver medals in the relay races. He grouped up with Bradley Goedde, Jeff Haegelin and Austin Wuthrich in the 200 medley relay race and finished second with a time of 1:45.12. The quartet teamed up again in the 400 free relay and finished in 3:24.40 for second place.
Haegelin won the 100 butterfly with a time of 53.41 and finished the 200 free in 1:46.55 for second place.
Goedde posted two third-place finishes, posting a time of 1:53.46 in the 200 free and 57.71 in the 100 backstroke.
Austin Lee was third in the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:15.72 and grouped up with Ved Sankaran, Matt Arredondo and Alec Walsh to place third in the 200 free relay with a time of 1:43.96.
