Admirers of the innovative Learning Works Charter School, which assists students who did not thrive in a traditional school setting, turned out for the recent fundraiser “Mi Casa Es Su Casa” at a historic estate in Altadena. Guests enjoyed tacos and margaritas, took part in live and silent auctions, and listened to addresses by Father Greg Boyle, founder of gang intervention program Homeboy Industries, and Learning Works founder and CEO Mikala Rahn. Two students also shared their stories at the event, whose theme was “Turning Dropouts Into Graduates.” The event raised money for programs and wraparound services that directly benefit the students of Learning Works and Learning Works@Homeboy Industries.
