The Society of Fellows of the Huntington Library, Art Collections, and Botanical Gardens gathered for the annual Huntington Ball last Saturday night. The event was held under the stars on the Huntington Library lawn, which faces the historic Library Exhibition Hall, built in 1920. The theme of the evening was a celebration of the library and its 9 million rare books, manuscripts, photographs and other historical materials. The gala celebrated research by scholars from around the world; curators, archivists and conservators who work with the collections — preserving them, making them available to scholars, and organizing exhibitions for the public and educational programs for schoolchildren. The décor had a library theme, too, with towering “bookshelf” backdrops surrounding the open-air dance floor and dining area.
