Mayfield, Polytechnic Sit Atop League Standings

The Mayfield Senior varsity girls’ volleyball team remained undefeated in Prep League play last Thursday after defeating host Rio Hondo Prep in Arcadia, 25-13, 14-25, 25-23, 25-21.
Annelise Rising amassed 21 kills and 13 digs, Audrey Nuckols racked up 12 kills and eight digs, and Holly Hillman produced 26 assists and four digs. Kayla Bandow tallied 14 digs, six kills and three aces, Michelle Guillen recorded 18 digs and three assists, and Eva Trujillo collected 13 assists and three digs. Megan Lee posted five kills and eight digs, while Kelsey Babcock finished with three kills and one block. Wendy Waite had three digs while Jessica Choi had one dig.
The Cubs lost their third straight match last Monday after falling to visiting La Cañada in a nonleague contest, 17-25, 25-23, 25-19, 25-13. Rising racked up 16 kills and eight digs, Hillman amassed 36 assists, three kills and four digs, and Nuckols collected eight kills, eight digs, three blocks and two aces. Bandow recorded seven kills, six digs and two aces, Lee finished with seven kills, three digs and one ace, and Guillen registered 12 digs, three aces and two assists. Trujillo produced one ace and one dig, Kate Grinnell posted one kill and Choi had one dig.
Mayfield previously competed in the Crescenta Valley Tournament on Friday, Sept. 23-24, finishing tied for fifth overall with a 5-2 record after falling to South Pasadena, 19-25, 25-23, 17-15. Rising collected 12 kills, seven digs and two aces, Bandow recorded 10 kills, eight digs and two aces, and Hillman amassed 29 assists. Nuckols tallied six kills, four aces, four digs and three blocks, while Lee had four kills. Guillen finished with seven digs, Trujillo registered two digs and one ace, and Grinnell posted two digs.
The Cubs lost their first tournament matchup against Venice High of Los Angeles, 15-25, 25-23, 15-8. Rising tallied 11 kills, three digs and one block, Bandow posted seven kills, 10 digs and three aces, and Nuckols produced seven kills and eight digs. Hillman collected 25 assists and six digs, Guillen recorded 10 digs and three assists, and Lee finished with two kills and four digs. Rising racked up 15 kills and five digs, Nuckols had 10 kills and six digs, and Hillman finished with 26 assists, six digs and one kill. Bandow collected four kills, three aces and three digs, while Guillen notched six digs. Lee tallied one kill and one dig, while Trujillo and Grinnell each had one dig.
The Cubs previously swept Flintridge Prep of La Cañada Flintridge in a league matchup, 25-18, 25-21, 25-20, and Rising amassed 22 kills and eight digs. Hillman racked up 33 assists, three digs and one kill, Bandow produced six kills, 12 digs and two aces, and Guillen collected 12 digs. Nuckols tallied two kills, five digs and four blocks, Lee posted three kills, two digs and one ace, and Grinnell registered two kills and one dig. Trujillo had three digs, while Choi finished with two digs.
Mayfield (16-4 overall, 9-0 in league) will visit Palos Verdes Chadwick for a league match on Thursday, Oct. 6, at 4:30 p.m.

POLYTECHNIC

Poly’s Tilde Keatley had five kills as the Panthers swept Palos Verdes Chadwick in a Prep League match last week.

The Panthers picked up their second sweep in as many days last Friday after defeating host Providence High in Burbank in a Prep League matchup, 25-17, 28-26, 25-15.
Poly swept visiting Palos Verdes Chadwick in a league match last Thursday, 25-12, 25-15, 25-14. Emily Wen amassed 29 assists, nine kills, nine digs and five aces, while Olivia Ip had eight kills, three blocks, three digs and one assist. Tilde Keatley had five kills, Cyanne Jones posted four kills and one block, and Cameilia Ding tallied three kills and one dig. Ellie Chu racked up 26 assists, Bekah Hong collected 16 digs and three assists, and Caroline Holdsworth registered seven digs, four aces and three assists. Lilie Henry finished with four kills and three digs, Kathleen Hollingsworth recorded one kill, two blocks and one dig, and Maja Keatley had one kill, three aces, two blocks and two digs. Katie Sam had three assists and two digs, while Irina Alsoufiev produced one dig and one assist.
The Panthers (13-1 overall, 8-1 in league) will host Westridge in a league match on Tuesday, Oct. 11, at 3:45 p.m.

MARANATHA

Maranatha junior Chidera Abaelu has contributed in multiple areas for the Minutemen.

The Minutemen lost an Olympic League match last Wednesday at Village Christian High in Sun Valley, 26-24, 25-17, 25-16. Junior Nicole Timour collected seven kills and five digs, sophomore Belen Casillas posted six kills, nine digs and three aces, and junior Lauren Nguyen racked up 20 assists, one kill and two aces. Jada Dixon recorded five kills, junior Kira Foster finished with three aces and five digs, and junior Tori Coates produced two aces and five digs. Senior Phoebe Lim tallied four digs and one kill, sophomore Kayla Sartin registered one kill and one dig, and junior Alex Carrillo had one dig.
Maranatha collected its first league win last Tuesday after sweeping visiting Heritage Christian High of Northridge, 25-14, 25-22, 25-17. Casillas racked up 11 kills, six digs and two aces, Timour collected 10 kills and five digs, and Dixon tallied seven kills, two digs and one ace. Nguyen amassed 29 assists, six digs and one kill, Foster registered five aces and seven digs
Coates posted five digs and one ace, and Carrillo had three aces. Junior Julie Datema finished with one kill, Lim recorded two digs, Sartin produced two blocks and junior Chidera Abaelu notched one dig.
The Minutemen competed in the Crescenta Valley Tournament on Sept. 23-24, finishing tied for 13th overall with a 1-6 record after falling to Viewpoint High of Calabasas in their tournament finale, 25-21. Casillas produced five kills, three digs and two aces, while Nguyen registered seven assists, four digs and one ace. Dixon had two kills and one dig, while Foster posted six digs. Carrillo had two digs, while Coates finished with one dig.
Maranatha lost to Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy, 25-11, 25-10, as Dixon tallied four kills and four digs. Casillas finished with three kills and five digs, Nguyen registered eight digs and eight assists, and Foster collected nine digs. Datema had one kill and one dig, while Coates posted three digs. Abaelu produced one block and one dig, and Carrillo recorded one dig.
Maranatha opened the second day of tournament play by losing to Palisades High of Pacific Palisades, 25-14, 29-27, 25-5. Casillas tallied eight kills and seven digs, Nguyen racked up 13 assists, three kills and four digs, and Carrillo tallied 12 digs. Dixon recorded three kills, Lim finished with four digs, one kill and one block and Foster collected seven digs. Coates produced five digs and one ace, Abaelu had three digs, one kill, one ace and one block, and Sartin notched one block.
The Minutemen closed the first day of tournament play by snapping a six-match losing streak by defeating Orange Vista High of Perris, 25-12, 25-14. Nguyen set a single-match career-high with eight aces while adding 18 assists two blocks and two kills. Casillas collected 11 kills and four digs, while Dixon tallied seven kills. Foster finished with eight digs and four aces, Abaelu had three kills, two aces and one dig, and Coates registered two kills and five assists.
Lim posted two digs and one kill, Carrillo recorded two digs, Sartin produced one block and one dig, and Datema had one dig.
Maranatha (11-19 overall, 1-4 in league) will host Whittier Christian High of La Habra in a league matchup on Thursday, Oct. 6, at 6:15 p.m.

FLINTRIDGE SACRED HEART

FSHA junior Veronica Udell collected nine kills to help the Tologs go 2-1 in Angelus League play last week.

The Tologs reclaimed sole possession of first place in the Angelus League standings last Thursday after defeating visiting Notre Dame High of Sherman Oaks, 25-23, 25-20, 25-11. FSHA got the outcome it wanted after being swept at Notre Dame earlier in the week.
Senior Nikki Garriola amassed 18 kills, 16 digs and four aces, while junior Mikayla Hsieh collected 16 digs, 13 assists, two kills and three blocks. Junior Luisa Madrigal produced nine kills, sophomore Piper Scherbert tallied four kills, four blocks and five digs, and junior Veronica Udell posted two kills and four digs. Junior Lindsey Du registered 29 digs and four aces, Ally Du recorded 17 assists and 11 digs, and senior Charlotte Taylor finished with 15 digs. Senior Keira Limon had two kills, three blocks and two digs, while senior Emily Smith notched six digs.
FSHA won a thrilling league match last Tuesday at Louisville High in Woodland Hills, 25-18, 20-25, 25-16, 22-25, 15-10. Garriola led with 16 kills, 10 digs and three blocks, while Hsieh amassed 29 digs, 12 assists and eight kills. Madrigal collected six kills and seven digs, Udell registered five kills and six digs, and Scherbert produced nine digs, four blocks and three kills. Ally Du posted 14 assists and 11 digs, Taylor recorded 17 digs, and Lindsey finished with Du eight digs and one kill. Smith had three aces, while Limon notched one kill.

FSHA competed in the Crescenta Valley Tournament on Sept. 23-24, finishing third overall with a 5-3 record. Garriola amassed 57 kills and 61 digs, and Hsieh racked up 78 assists, 65 digs and 21 kills in eight matches en route to all-tournament team honors.
The Tologs lost to South Pasadena, 19-25, 25-19, 16-14. Garriola collected 11 kills and seven digs, Madrigal registered 11 kills and five digs, and Scherbert tallied three kills and four digs. Udell posted three kills and three digs, Hsieh recorded 15 assists, 11 digs and one kill, and Lindsey Du produced three aces and 11 digs. Sophomore Ally Du finished with 10 assists and three digs, Limon had three aces and Taylor logged six digs.
Flintridge Sacred Heart swept Palisades High of Pacific Palisades, 25-20, 25-10, in the second tournament matchup on Sept. 24. Garriola racked up six kills, five digs and three aces, Madrigal collected five kills and Udell posted four kills. Hsieh recorded three kills, 10 digs, eight assists and two aces, Scherbert finished with two kills and three blocks, and Lindsey Du tallied three aces, three digs and three assists. Ally Du registered five assists, and four digs, Taylor produced 10 digs, and Smith and senior Erin Carney each had one dig.
FSHA ended the first day of tournament play on Sept. 23 with a sweep over Arcadia, 25-15, 25-16. Hsieh finished with five kills, eight assists and seven digs, Garriola had four kills, two blocks and two digs, and Madrigal produced three kills and two digs. Udell tallied three kills, Limon collected two kills and two blocks, and Taylor posted three aces and six digs. Lindsey Du registered two aces, three assists and seven digs, Scherbert recorded one kill and three digs, and Astacaan logged one kill and one dig. Carney notched one kill, Ally Du had six assists and five digs, and Fortin had two digs.
The Tologs were edged by Venice High of Los Angeles, 20-25, 25-21, 14-16, in their second tournament matchup.
Flintridge Sacred Heart opened the tournament by dominating Castaic, 25-7, 25-16. Udell had five kills, Hsieh notched four kills and four assists, and Garriola finished with three kills. Madrigal logged two kills and five digs, Limon recorded two kills and two digs, and Scherbert collected two kills. Taylor set a single-match career-high with seven aces while adding seven digs and one kill. Carney registered one kill, Fortin tallied one ace and one dig, and Ally Du had eight assists, two aces and three digs. Lindsey Du produced seven digs, while Smith posted one ace and four assists.
The Tologs previously defeated a tough Chaminade squad, 25-21, 21-25, 25-16, 25-23. Garriola posted 14 kills, 13 digs and six aces, Scherbert produced seven kills, four digs and three blocks, and Madrigal finished with six kills and 10 digs. Hsieh tallied 17 digs, 16 assists and five kills, Udell recorded four kills and four digs, and Limon had two kills, three blocks and five digs. Taylor racked up 15 digs and three aces, while Lindsey Du collected 13 digs and three assists. Ally Du notched 15 assists and 11 digs, while Smith registered one ace.
FSHA (13-12 overall, 4-1 in league) will compete in the San Diego Tournament this Friday, Oct. 7, and Saturday, Oct. 8.

FLINTRIDGE PREP

Flintridge Prep’s Marissa Halley tallied 22 digs as the Wolves lost a Prep League matchup at Rio Hondo Prep in Arcadia.

The Wolves competed in the Gabrielino Invitational Tournament in San Gabriel last Saturday, losing the finale to North Torrance High in a one-set match. Flintridge Prep competed well in pool play, defeating Holy Family High of Glendale, 25-9, 25-10, and Bravo High of Los Angeles, 25-17, 25-17. The Wolves suffered their only loss against Taft High of Woodland Hills, 25-12, 25-18.
Flintridge Prep won a thrilling five-set Prep League match on Tuesday at Palos Verdes Chadwick, 21-25, 25-15, 19-25, 25-23, 15-9. Abbie Callaway amassed 22 kills, 22 digs, two aces and three blocks, while Jessica Powell collected 20 kills, three blocks and four digs. Jaleen Tseng and Ashlyn Nam each had four aces, while Lucy Liu registered three aces and three blocks.
The Wolves lost a league matchup at Rio Hondo Prep in Arcadia, 25-22, 17-25, 25-23, 25-23. Callaway collected 14 kills, 17 digs and three aces, while Powell finished with 18 kills, six digs and three blocks. Natalia Pradhan added seven kills, while Liu posted a team-high five blocks. Marissa Halley produced 22 digs and an ace, while Candice Huang tallied 16 digs and a pair of aces.
Flintridge Prep previously lost a league match at Mayfield Senior, 25-18, 25-21, 25-20, as Powell led the team with eight kills and a pair of blocks. Callaway registered seven kills, eight digs and a pair of aces, while Liu and Amelia Bechthold each had six kills. Pradhan posted five kills without committing an error, while Halley produced 10 digs.
The Wolves (10-7 overall, 3-5 in league) will host Westridge School in a league matchup on Friday, Oct. 7, at 5:30 p.m.

WESTRIDGE

Westridge’s Lucia Flores-Rojas helped the Tigers swept Arcadia Rio Hondo Prep in a Prep League match.

The Tigers swept host Rio Hondo Prep in Arcadia, 25-18, 28-26, 25-22, in a Prep League match. Grace Nelson racked up 20 kills and 14 digs, Jade Ilas amassed 18 kills and 24 digs, and Jordan Boskovich collected 48 assists. Emery Fishback produced six kills and three digs, while Willow Nauber finished with three kills and three digs. Lily Johnson registered eight digs and one kill, Ashley Zhang tallied five digs, and Lucia Flores-Rojas had one dig.
Westridge previously swept visiting Palos Verdes Chadwick, 25-21, 25-18, 27-25, as Nelson amassed 20 kills, 15 digs and three aces. Ilas racked up 15 kills and nine digs, Boskovich produced 41 assists, and Fishback tallied four kills and one dig. Johnson had four digs and one kill, while Zhang finished with five digs
Westridge (9-7 overall, 5-3 in league) will continue league action by visiting Flintridge Prep on Friday, Oct. 7, at 5:30 p.m.

LA SALLE

La Salle’s Holly Rettig produced 45 kills, 31 digs, nine blocks and seven aces over her last four matches for the Lancers.

The Lancers suffered their 21st consecutive loss last Thursday at Mary Star of the Sea in San Pedro, 21-25, 23-25, 25-21, 25-15, 25-13. La Salle did win its first two sets since Aug. 13 despite being edged in the Del Rey League contest and falling to 0-5 in league (2-21 overall).
Avery Ward collected 23 kills, two aces and three digs, while Holly Rettig amassed 22 kills, 17 digs and four aces. Ava Alvarado produced 21 digs and one ace, while Maya Eriksson finished with 12 digs. Jocelyn Allen registered three kills, two blocks and one dig, Isabel Perez tallied one kill and one dig, and Samira Johnson had four digs and one ace. Jadelyn Sherman posted three digs and one block, Jazline Hernandez recorded two digs and one ace, and Adrienne Fuentes had one dig.
La Salle was swept in a league matchup last Tuesday at St. Anthony High in Long Beach, 25-18, 25-19, 25-21. Rettig racked up 13 kills, seven digs, three blocks and two aces, Ward collected 10 kills, six digs, two blocks and one ace, and Alvarado tallied 13 digs, one kill and one ace. Allen produced six blocks and one ace, while Georgia Longhurst posted two kills and two blocks. Fuentes had one kill, while Johnson finished with four digs and one ace.
The Lancers lost a league contest on Sept. 22 against visiting St. Joseph High of Lakewood, 25-15, 25-12, 25-8. Ward posted eight kills, Rettig registered five kills, four digs and three blocks, and Longhurst collected five kills. Hernandez tallied 13 assists and one dig, Eriksson finished with four assists and two digs, and Johnson had four digs and two aces. Allen produced one kill and two blocks, while Fuentes recorded one dig and one block.
La Salle will look to get its first league win when it hosts first-place Bishop Montgomery on Thursday, Oct. 6, at 6 p.m.
