Polytechnic School’s varsity boys’ basketball team had its three-game winning streak snapped after falling to visiting Burbank Providence, 68-67, in overtime during a Prep League game on Saturday.
A day earlier, the Panthers (10-4 overall record, 2-1 in league) visited Chadwick of the Palos Verdes Peninsula and won the league matchup, 63-48, on Jan. 21.
Poly had recently returned to action after being idle for three weeks and routed host Arcadia Rio Hondo Prep, 60-22, on Monday, Jan. 17. No individual statistics were reported to the Outlook.
The Panthers are scheduled to host Rio Hondo Prep for a league rematch on Friday, Jan. 28, at 6:30 p.m.
MARANATHA
The Minutemen recently defeated visiting Santa Clarita Christian of Canyon Country, 53-50. Junior Terrance Hampton Jr. registered a double-double with a team-high 24 points, 10 rebounds and four assists while making three for four from behind the arc. Sophomore Russell Williams recorded nine points and five boards, freshman Nicholas Khatchikian had seven points and junior Alec Smith added six points. Senior Martin Zarzuela tallied three points while junior Jacob Brantingham and sophomore Noah Kim each finished with two points.
Maranatha also competed in the Legacy Showcase at South Pasadena High School and defeated Indio Shadow Hills, 66-56, on Saturday.
Maranatha traveled to Cerritos Valley Christian a day earlier and lost is second consecutive game, 62-50, last Friday. The Minutemen opened the week by traveling to Sun Valley Village Christian and lost the league game, 69-58, on Tuesday, Jan. 18.
The Minutemen, who own a 10-9 overall record (2-3 in league), are scheduled to host Village Christian in a league rematch on Friday, Jan. 28, at 7 p.m.
ST. FRANCIS
The Golden Knights have been on a rampage the past two weeks, winning seven of their eight most recent games.
SFHS (18-4 overall, 3-2 in league) competed in the State Preview Classic and defeated Long Beach Poly, 64-60, on Saturday. Senior shooting guard Buckley DeJardin was named player of the game after registering a double-double with 28 points and 10 boards while senior point guard Jake Goldberg posted 18 points, three rebounds and three assists. Senior forward Brandin Dantzler scored six points, junior guard Jackson Mosley added five points, junior George Tupy recorded four points, senior forward Myron Longhurst finished with two points and junior point guard Luke McGrath made one free throw.
In Friday night’s thriller, St. Francis defeated visiting Sherman Oaks Notre Dame, 62-59, in overtime during a league game on Jan. 21. DeJardin amassed 21 points and 14 rebounds, Goldberg added 18 points and four dimes, and McGrath scored 10 points. Mosley and Dantzler had nine and four points, respectively.
The Golden Knights lost their only league game in a two-week span at Studio City Harvard-Westlake, 56-45, on Jan. 19. DeJardin posted 15 points, McGrath racked up 10 points, Goldberg and Dantzler each had eight points, and Mosley finished with four points.
St. Francis hosted Chaminade and won a competitive Mission League matchup, 54-48, on Friday, Jan. 14, as three Golden Knights recorded double-digit points. DeJardin registered a double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds, Goldberg added 11 points, five rebounds and three steals, and Dantzler had 10 points, seven rebounds and two steals.
McGrath and Mosley tallied eight points each while adding seven and five rebounds, respectively. Longhurst finished with two points and one steal.
LA SALLE
Senior Myles Blackman and sophomore Derek Peterson scored 17 and 13 points, respectively, but the Lancers were defeated by St. Paul High of Santa Fe Springs in a Camino Real League game, 79-57.
La Salle College Prep (10-10 overall, 1-3 in league) rebounded for a convincing victory at Montebello’s Cantwell-Sacred Heart of Mary, defeating the Cardinals in a league game, 78-59. No individual statistics were reported to the Outlook.
The following week, the Lancers fell to visiting La Puente Bishop Amat, 49-42. Peterson racked up 22 points while senior Isaiah May had six points for the Lancers.
Most recently, La Salle lost to visiting St. Paul, 74-47, for a second time this season last Friday. No individual statistics were reported.
The Lancers are scheduled to visit Los Angeles Salesian in a league game on Friday, Jan. 28, at 7 p.m.
FLINTRIDGE PREP
The Wolves entered this week having been idle since competing in a tournament the last week of December. Flintridge Prep (8-8 overall, 1-0 in league) is scheduled to visit Burbank Providence for a Prep League game on Thursday, Jan. 27, at 7:30 p.m.
