The Gooden Center, a highly successful mental health care and addiction treatment facility in Pasadena since 1962, hosted its Run for Recovery 5K and Fun Run fall fundraiser at Lacy Park last Saturday. The 200 attendees — including many in Halloween costumes — also enjoyed snacks and music in the park. Thomas McNulty is the CEO of Gooden Center and George Ricciardella was the event chair. The event is designed to raise awareness for two of the most tragic — and preventable — issues facing the country today: substance use disorder and obstacles to mental illness care. The Gooden Center provides subacute mental health care for both women and men, and addiction treatment for men, all in a homelike environment. Critical to the success of its program is counseling provided for the families of the clients.
