PUSD Redistricting Panel Plans Public Hearings

First published in the Jan.13 print issue of the Pasadena Outlook.

The Pasadena Unified School District and its Redistricting Commission have scheduled virtual public hearings in the coming weeks to gather community input on redrawing school board members’ district boundaries.
Every 10 years, PUSD Board of Education district boundaries are redrawn to account for population changes. PUSD is seeking input for the 2021-22 redistricting effort that could impact future board member elections. Redistricting is a process by which a school district ensures the population balance of each district and designed for Board of Education trustee elections. It’s important to note that redistricting maps will not adjust school attendance boundaries and only affects the Board of Education areas for voters to have equal representation.
PUSD’s seven-member Redistricting Commission has scheduled three virtual public hearings to review two mapping scenarios and population changes at the following dates and times:
• Jan. 12, 6 p.m., Zoom
• Jan. 15, 10 a.m., Zoom
• Jan. 18, 6 p.m., Zoom
Virtual meeting links and additional information can be found at pusd.us/redistricting.
Public input is now open and will end on Jan. 18. If you are unable to attend the public hearings, you can view the proposed redistricting mapping scenarios and provide the redistricting commission with your input, opinions and/or questions through the Pubic Feedback Form at pusd.us/redistricting. The three public hearings will be available in English and Spanish and all PUSD families and stakeholders are welcome to attend.
The district encourages all to attend a public hearing and learn more about redistricting for PUSD and include more voices to this historic process.
