Local Teams Ready for League Play in 2022

Flintridge Preparatory’s varsity girls’ soccer team is one of two remaining unbeaten Prep League teams after finishing 1-0-1 in the Best of the West Tournament at Tustin High School recently.
The Wolves (6-0-2 overall record) opened tournament play with a scoreless tie against Downey before a dominant 5-0 shutout over California High of Whittier later that afternoon. Junior midfielder Sage Shurman recorded a hat trick while junior midfielders Presley Nevadomsky and Chayse Lim-Ying each scored once. Lim-Ying had two assists, while Shurman and freshman midfielder Dagny Marion each had one. Junior goalie Ana Bozzi-Mackay earned the shutout victory.
Flintridge Prep will seek to remain unbeaten as it resumes league action at Westridge School on Tuesday, Jan. 4, at 3:15 p.m.

MAYFIELD SENIOR

The Cubs recently earned a Prep League-best seventh overall win after sweeping the competition in the Best of the West Tournament on Dec. 18.
In its tournament finale, Mayfield improved to 7-1-1 overall after shutting out Marshall High, 2-0. Sophomore Mia Cunnigham did all the damage by scoring two second-half goals, while junior Kaitlyn Gomez added one assist. Junior goalie Francesca Agliolo earned the shutout victory.
Earlier that day, the Cubs dominated Grace Brethren of Simi Valley, 4-1. Cunnigham scored twice, and senior Sonja Smeritschnig and junior Ella Gallo each added one goal.
Before the weekend tournament, Mayfield earned a clean 1-0 shutout victory in a nonleague game at Monrovia on Dec. 14. Gomez etched the deciding goal while Agliolo and sophomore Ellery Potter split time tending goal to combined for a shutout victory.
The Cubs will host La Cañada in a nonleague match on Tuesday, Jan. 4, at 3:30 p.m.

LA SALLE
The Lancers kicked off their season by competing in the two-day Thousand Oaks tournament last week.
La Salle (1-1-1 overall) opened with a nice 1-0 shutout win over Oxnard Rio Mesa before tying Atascadero High 1-1 later that afternoon. On the final day of tournament play, the Lancers fell to Valencia West Ranch, 6-0. No individual statistics were reported to the Outlook.
La Salle will open Del Rey League play at La Puente Bishop Amat on Thursday, Jan. 6, at 3:15 p.m.

FLINTRIDGE SACRED HEART
The Tologs are on a two-game losing streak after falling to La Cañada, 2-0, recently. No individual statistics were reported to the Outlook.
FSHA (2-3-1 overall) will open Mission League play by hosting Mission Hills Alemany High on Thursday, Jan. 6, at 5 p.m.

POLYTECHNIC
The Panthers have been idle since their scoreless tie with visiting Santa Ana in the Best of the West Tournament. Poly (3-1-1 overall record) will open Prep League play at Flintridge Prep on Saturday, Jan. 8, at 11:00 a.m.

WESTRIDGE
The Tigers earned their first victory of the season with a 4-0 shutout over visiting Sun Valley Village Christian in a nonleague match on Dec. 16. No individual statistics were reported to the Outlook.
The win snapped a seven-game losing streak dating back to May 3 of last season while also recording Westridge’s first home win since April 29.
The Tigers (1-5 overall) will host Flintridge Prep on Tuesday, Jan. 4, at 3:15 p.m.
