Maranatha Wins Tournament; Poly, Prep, La Salle Set to Open League

Maranatha High School’s varsity boys’ basketball team recently traveled out of state to Nevada and swept its competition in the Las Vegas Tarkanian Classic.
The Minutemen, currently riding a five-game win streak, won the championship game against Las Vegas Desert Oasis High, 62-59, on Tuesday, Dec. 21. Junior power forward Terrance Hampton Jr. registered a double-double with 24 points and 12 rebounds, while senior point guard Martin Zarzuela scored 21 points.
MHS defeated Las Vegas Bonanza, 62-56, on Dec. 20, to advance to the championship game at the Orleans Arena.
Before Sunday’s day off, the Minutemen defeated Las Vegas Faith Lutheran High, 52-49, and Las Vegas Cimarron-Memorial High, 59-48, in the opening rounds of tournament play.

LA SALLE
The Lancers have been idle since their impressive 94-62 nonleague victory at Blair High on Dec. 10. Senior forward Krish Manwani scored 20 points, sophomore guard Derek Peterson recorded 19 points and senior strong forward Myles Blackman added 15 points.
La Salle (7-7 overall) is currently competing in the South Pasadena tournament; the results will be included in the next edition of the Pasadena Outlook. The Lancers will begin Camino Real League play by traveling to Santa Fe Springs St. Paul on Wednesday, Jan. 5, at 7 p.m.

POLYTECHNIC
The Panthers recently fell to visiting Newbury Park in overtime, 75-71, in a nonleague game on Dec. 18. No individual statistics were provided to the Outlook.
Poly (7-3 overall) will head into the San Gabriel tournament looking to snap a two-game losing streak. The Panthers will resume league action by hosting Palos Verdes Peninsula Chadwick on Friday, Jan. 7, at 6:30 p.m.

FLINTRIDGE PREP
The Wolves have been idle since opening Prep League play with a 73-40 victory over visiting Arcadia Rio Hondo Prep on Dec. 17. Henry Morrison scored a team-high 12 points, Geoffrey Stetson added 11 points and Theo Kuo had 10 points.
Flintridge Prep (7-6 overall, 1-0 in league) will compete in the South Pasadena tournament; the results will be included in the next edition of the Pasadena Outlook. The Wolves will resume league play by hosting Providence of Burbank on Tuesday, Jan. 11, at 7:30 p.m.

ST. FRANCIS
The Golden Knights have been idle since their 54-34 intercity rivalry victory at La Cañada on Dec. 17. Senior captain Buckley DeJardin scored a game-high 20 points and senior point guard Jake Goldberg added 13 points.
St. Francis (10-2 overall) will travel to Ventura St. Bonaventure for a nonleague game on Saturday, Jan. 8, at 7 p.m.
