La Salle College Preparatory’s varsity girls’ basketball recently placed third in the 26th annual Gary Houston Classic at Arroyo High in El Monte last week.
La Salle (9-2 record) cruised past visiting Temple City on the final day of the Gary Houston Classic on Saturday. Sophomores Audrey Chen (18 points, 19 rebounds) and Ryann Riddle (11 points, 16 rebounds) each registered a double-double while combining for all five of the Lancers’ steals. Freshman Kaden Cortes added nine points, including one 3-pointer and three rebounds, junior Reese Wong had four points and four rebounds, and sophomore Aubrey Ramos recorded two points and three rebounds.
The Lancers fell to the eventual tournament champion South Pasadena, 47-35, in the semifinals last Friday as Chen registered another double-double with 10 points and a team-high 11 rebounds. Wong also played well, scoring a team-high 11 points, including three 3-pointers and six rebounds.
La Salle posted a 58-21 victory over Hacienda Heights’ Wilson last Wednesday as three Lancers recorded double-digit points. Chen led the way with a double-double (18 points, 11 rebounds) while Cortes had 15 points, including two 3-pointers and five rebounds, and Riddle registered 14 points with four rebounds. Wong added nine points and nine rebounds, junior Daniella Romero recorded two points and two rebounds while Sol Lee, who made her second varsity appearance, had two rebounds.
La Salle will play City of Industry’s Workman High on Friday, Dec. 27, at 6 p.m.

FLINTRIDGE SACRED HEART ACADEMY

Flintridge Sacred Heart’s varsity girls’ basketball team recently competed in the Poly Invitational last week and placed second. The Panthers won two of three games as junior Meghan Garrity earned all-tournament team honors.
The Tologs dominated Lancaster Paraclete last Saturday, Dec. 11, the final day of tournament play, as junior Sophia Heredia and senior Faith Ellis scored 18 and 14 points, respectively.
Senior Sofia Parker scored seven points, while Garrity and senior Isabella Cao each scored five points. Sophomore Isabelle Risha recorded three points, while senior Isabella Fraley and freshman Ava Nawrocki each had two points.
FSHA fell to Cabrillo, 37-25, last Friday. Nawrocki had a team-high seven points, while Fraley and Garrity each scored five points. Heredia and Ellis each registered three points, and senior Angelina Cao had one field goal.
FSHA will host Blair High in a nonleague contest on Tuesday, Dec. 21, at 5:30 p.m.

FLINTRIDGE PREP

Flintridge Prep opened Prep League play with lopsided victories against visiting Westridge School, 67-26, and host Palos Verdes Peninsula’s Chadwick, 67-18,
Point guard Ashley Chea scored a game-high 37 points in the 41-point victory against Westridge, while sophomore guard Maddie Chiu added 20 points. Sophomore guard Kelly Tsao added three points, freshman forward Gigi Mastras, freshman power forward Olivia Childs, and senior point guard Maddie Huie each scored two points, and senior strong forward Riley Hause made one free throw.
The Wolves, which entered this week with a 2-0 league record (6-4 overall), will host Arcadia Rio Hondo Prep in a league game on Friday, Dec. 17, at 6 p.m.
POLYTECHNIC

The Panthers hosted the Poly Invitational last week, winning one of three games and placing third while moving to a 4-4 overall record.
The Panthers lost on the final day of their invitational to Lompoc Cabrillo, 43-22, being limited to only 11 points in each half.
The day before, Poly routed Lancaster Paraclete, 48-29, after opening the tournament with a loss to FSHA, 47-35, on Thursday, Dec. 9. No individual statistics were provided to the Outlook.
Athletic Director Steve Beerman said two teams had to cancel due to COVID-19 health and safety protocols before the invitational.
Poly opens the Tri-City Christian Tournament at Oceanside High School against Solano Beach Santa Fe Christian on Tuesday, Dec. 28, at 3:30 p.m.

WESTRIDGE SCHOOL

Westridge lost at Flintridge Prep, 67-26, last Friday, Dec. 10, to open Prep League play with an 0-1 record (2-3 overall).
Previously, the Cubs (2-3 overall) fell to Los Angeles Immaculate Heart, 58-33, in a nonleague game on Tuesday, Dec. 7, after beating Blair High, 46-32, in another nonleague contest on Friday, Dec. 3. No individual statistics were reported to the Outlook.
Westridge will visit Burbank Providence for a league game on Jan. 4, 2022.

MAYFIELD SENIOR

Mayfield Senior fell to Rowland High of Rowland Heights (67-25), San Marino (48-30) and Montclair (56-15) in last week’s Claremont Webb Tournament. No individual statistics were provided to the Outlook.
The losses moved the Cubs’ record to 2-5 overall entering this week.

MARANATHA

Maranatha recently fell to La Cañada, 43-28, moving to 0-6 to start the season. No individual statistics were provided to the Outlook.
The Minutemen will compete in the South Pasadena High School SoCal Christmas Classic’s platinum division against Cypress High on Monday, Dec. 27, at 2:30 p.m.
