Foothill Family Honors 6 ‘Community Heroes’

Nearly 250 guests recently gathered under COVID protocol guidelines on the lawn of the Annandale Golf Club at Foothill Family’s gala to honor six “Community Heroes,” who were recognized “for their leadership and herculean efforts in keeping our community safe, informed, and connected during the pandemic in six categories,” according to an event spokesperson. The honorees were Dr. Sid Kumar (health), State Assembly member Blanca E. Rubio (public service), Luis Patiño (media), Teri Muse (community service), Connie Aguilar (education) and Wendy Mour (mental health).

Dr. Sid Kumar is the chief of service psychiatry at Kaiser Permanente Baldwin Park and the regional chief of psychiatry of the Southern California Permanente Medical Group. Kumar grew up in northern India and earned his medical degree from King George’s/CSM Medical College. After finishing medical school, he moved to Australia and New Zealand, where he obtained the fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatry. Luis Patiño is a seasoned media executive with experience managing large organizations. He is the founder and creator of POSiBLELA.com and Copa Univision. Currently, Patiño is the senior vice president and general manager of Univision Local Media in Los Angeles, at Univision Communications Inc., the leading media company serving Hispanic America. Univision Local Media owns and/or operates 128 local television and radio stations in major U.S. Hispanic markets and Puerto Rico. Patino received his bachelor’s degree in business administration and management from California State University, Los Angeles. California State Assemblywoman Blanca E. Rubio, a longtime public service partner to Foothill Family, has been on the front lines to ensure people have received accurate pandemic information and essential resources to keep their families safe and healthy. Since her election in 2016, Rubio has authored bills that support victims of domestic violence, create opportunities for children within the foster care system, ensure our youngest students are given proper support to succeed in school, and support for immigrant communities. Teri Muse is the public sector solutions representative of the San Gabriel Valley at Waste Management. She is an advocate for critical services to be provided to our community members, including those at Foothill Family. Muse worked with the city of Baldwin Park on behalf of Waste Management to develop a comprehensive communication and implementation plan to help businesses comply with California Assembly Bill 341 mandatory recycling law. Prior to owning her own consulting firm, she served as the director of public affairs at Kaiser Permanente. Connie Aguilar is the community outreach specialist at one of Foothill Family’s key school partners, Options for Learning Options, a leader in preparing children and supporting families for life success through innovative, quality child development programs. She serves on both Foothill Family’s Duarte and Covina Family Center Advisory Boards and has recently been a part of Foothill Family’s accreditation process Wendy Mour is the clinical manager at the Foothill Family Covina Family Center. She has worked in community mental health for more than 15 years and has dedicated her professional experience at Foothill Family for more than nine years. Throughout the pandemic, Mour created and led webinars with critical resources, trainings and workshops to support students, families, teachers and caregivers on myriad relevant, challenging and timely topics.
