Flintridge Prep Club Holds Writing Competition to Honor Veterans

The Flintridge Prep Students and Veterans Club will be hosting a writing competition to commemorate and recognize the unique stories and values of veterans.
Competitors will interview and write about a veteran in their community, who has given them permission to address their experiences and lessons in the military or as a veteran.
Entries will be judged by a panel of guest judges, including Gen. Herbert Jay “Hawk” Carlisle, San Marino Tribune editor Mitch Lehman, and several other distinguished members of the veteran and writing communities. First- and second-place winners will be grouped into two categories — overall excellence and most unique narrative, with a cash prize of up to $1,000 and $500, respectively.
Founded in 2022 by then-sophomore Daniel Zhao of ’24, the Students and Veterans Club of Flintridge Prep is a student-run organization committed to creating a lasting bond between the community and veterans. The club aims to preserve the veterans’ memories, stories and lessons through a series of interviews and presentations so the community may learn from their discipline, perseverance, courage and responsibility. Through the launch of the writing competition, club members hope to promote the appreciation of veterans among the younger generation and to forever preserve the legacy of the brave men and women who serve the country.
