Poly, Flintridge Prep, La Salle, FSHA Earn CIF Berths

The Polytechnic varsity girls’ water polo team concluded the regular season on a four-game win streak after defeating Westridge School, 18-11, La Salle College Preparatory, 18-12; Mayfield Senior, 19-4; and Palos Verdes Chadwick, 12-5, in league games. Individual statistics were not reported to the Pasadena Outlook.
The league’s undefeated champion Panthers (12-0 in league, 18-6 overall) had a first-round bye and will host either Don Lugo High of Chino (10-3 overall) or Charter Oak High of Covina (14-10 overall) in their CIF-Southern Section Division V playoff second-round match Thursday. If victorious, Poly would advance to the quarterfinals on Saturday, Feb. 11.

FLINTRIDGE PREP

The Wolves concluded the regular season on a four-game win streak after posting a pair of Prep League victories last week over La Salle College Preparatory, 7-6, and Brentwood School of Los Angeles, 15-4. Individual statistics were not reported to the Pasadena Outlook.
Flintridge Prep recently defeated host Brentwood School, 11-3, in a league matchup. Goalie Dahlia Kamins racked up 13 saves while Nico Seaver registered five goals. Victoria Barry scored three goals, Alex Thein tallied a pair of goals and Naomi Cohen had one goal.
The Wolves previously crushed visiting Westridge School in a league game, 17-6. Kamins posted nine saves while Seaver recorded five goals. Cohen and Thein each finished with three goals, Sarah Iturbe and Barry each scored two goals, and Katelin Kinne and Sarah Bonk each had one goal.
Second-place Flintridge Prep (10-2 in league, 15-9 overall) hosted Glendale (11-17 overall) in its CIF-Southern Section Division V playoff opener on Tuesday; the game ended after the Pasadena Outlook’s press deadline. If victorious, the Wolves would advance to the second round Thursday and battle either Whittier (17-9 overall) or Los Altos of Hacienda Heights (13-6 overall). If Flintridge Prep survives the first two rounds, it would advance to the quarterfinals on Saturday, Feb. 11.

LA SALLE

The Lancers narrowly lost their regular-season finale at Flintridge Prep, 7-6, last Wednesday as senior Monica Villasenor racked up 14 saves, four steals, one goal and one assist.
Senior River Lee produced one goal and 12 steals, sophomore Grace Kachmarsky finished with one goal, four steals and one assist, and senior Audrey Turner tallied one goal, three steals and one assist. Senior Maya Magluyan and junior Cameron Turner each registered one goal, one assist and one steal while junior Raquel Sanchez collected five steals.
The Lancers lost a league game at Polytechnic, 18-12, last Monday as Villasenor posted 16 saves, one steal and one assist. Audrey Turner registered three goals, six steals and three assists while Kachmarsky finished with three goals, two steals and one assist. Sanchez tallied two goals and five steals, Lee scored two goals with two assists and two steals, and Magluyan recorded two goals, two steals and one assist. Cameron Turner collected three assists and one steal while senior Madailein Gregg had two steals.
La Salle recently defeated host Palos Verdes Chadwick in a league matchup, 18-14. Kachmarsky racked up seven goals, four steals and one assist, Audrey Turner registered six goals, three steals and two assists, and Villasenor finished with 17 saves, two assists and one steal. Cameron Turner tallied two goals, three steals and two assists while Lee recorded one goal, 11 steals and four assists. Magluyan scored one goal with four steals and four assists, Sanchez had one goal, two steals and two assists, and senior Chloe Gao and sophomore Matea Cepielik each notched one steal.

La Salle, which finished third in the league standings with an 8-4 record (15-9 overall), visited Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy (20-5 overall) for its CIF-Southern Section Division IV opener on Tuesday; the game ended after the Pasadena Outlook’s press deadline. If victorious, the Lancers would meet either Carpinteria (16-6 overall) or Buena High of Ventura (15-14 overall) in a second-round matchup Thursday. If La Salle survives the first two rounds, it would advance to the quarterfinals on Saturday, Feb. 11.

The Tologs defeated visiting Paramount, 22-4, in their regular-season finale last Friday.
FSHA recently picked up a pair of Mission League victories over Marlborough High in Los Angeles, 10-5, and Louisville High of Woodland Hills, 14-6. Individual statistics were not reported to the Pasadena Outlook.
The Tologs previously lost a league game at Harvard-Westlake in Studio City, 14-2, as Marisol Cowles scored both goals.

The Cubs won their Prep League and regular-season finale at Brentwood School in Los Angeles, 17-12, last Wednesday.
Senior Tillie VanAken amassed 11 goals while freshman Gabriella DeFilippo posted six saves. Freshman Melia Whalen registered three goals, sophomore Olivia Laguna scored a pair of goals, and junior Maggie Mazurek had one goal.
The Cubs lost a league game at Palos Verdes Chadwick, 18-7, last Monday. DeFilippo made eight saves, VanAken recorded five goals, and freshman Zoe Chiu and Mazurek each added one goal.
Mayfield recently lost a league game at La Salle College Preparatory, 17-5. DeFilippo racked up 10 saves, VanAken scored four goals, and freshman Sofia Hesling had one goal.
The Cubs previously lost league game against Polytechnic, 19-4, but defeated San Marino in a nonleague matchup, 14-12.
Mayfield concluded the campaign fifth in the league standings with a 3-9 record (10-16 overall).

WESTRIDGE

The Tigers lost their Prep League and regular-season finale at Polytechnic, 18-11, last Wednesday.
Westridge recently competed in the Los Altos Tournament and finished with a 2-2 record. The Tigers defeated El Modena High of Orange, 12-7, and Pacifica High of Garden Grove, 12-10, but lost to Westlake Village, 18-3, and Charter Oak High of Covina, 20-10.
Westridge previously suffered a pair of league losses against Brentwood School in Los Angeles, 7-6, and Flintridge Prep, 17-6. Individual statistics were not reported to the Pasadena Outlook.
The Tigers finished the season tied for sixth with a 2-10 record (5-15 overall).
