Flintridge Prep, St. Francis, FSHA Qualify for CIF Finals

The Flintridge Prep boys’ and girls’ varsity cross-country teams competed in the CIF-SS Division V prelims at Mt. San Antonio College in Walnut last Saturday. Both the girls’ and the boys’ teams qualified for the CIF finals on Saturday, Nov. 19, finishing second (54 points) and third (114 points), respectively.
The Wolves girls’ team boasted four top-15 runners to help qualify for the upcoming finals. Sophomore Jenna Moutes (22:39.6) took seventh, junior Julia Bonk (22:31.4) finished ninth, freshman Sarah Bonk (22:45.1) claimed 12th and senior Anya Rose (22:55.2) placed 15th. Senior Audrey Jung (24:03.6) was 21st, while juniors Nicolle Riley (24:10.6) and Hailey Wilson (25:21.5) finished 25th and 32nd, respectively.
Meanwhile, the boys’ team also had a fine outing to qualify for the upcoming finals. Junior Nicolas Stanton (17:52.6) claimed 19th while junior Kevin Martinez (17:58.1) and freshman Declan Mansbridge (18:01.9) finished 24th and 27th, respectively. Senior Bryan Taniguchi (18:09.4) and junior Evan Guyer (18:16.5) finished seconds apart to take 29th and 30th, respectively, while junior Leo McDonald (18:32.1) and freshman William Krause (20:08.3) rounded out the group in 36th and 61st, respectively.

ST. FRANCIS
The St. Francis High School varsity boys’ cross-country team finished first overall with 45 points in the first heat of the CIF-SS Division IV prelims at Mt. San Antonio College in Walnut last Saturday, boasting four top 15 runners.
The Golden Knights were led by senior Hayden Owen, who finished second with a 15:40.7 time. Juniors Luke Metcalf (15:52.7) and Samuel Franco (15:58.1) placed ninth and 10th, respectively, while senior Noe Barraza (16:30.8) took 15th. Sophomore Aidan Guzman (16:37.5) was 18th, while sophomores Auge Martin (16:49.8) and Axel Gonzalez (17:07.6) took 21st and 32nd, respectively.

FLINTRIDGE SACRED HEART
The FSHA varsity girls’ cross-country team competed in the CIF-SS Division IV prelims at Mt. San Antonio College last Saturday, finishing sixth overall with 166 points and qualifying for the finals on Saturday, Nov. 19.
Freshman Arianna Shamo (20:37.0) led the team in 27th while junior Annie Ramirez (20:39.4) finished just seconds hind her in 29th. Sophomores Maria Owen (21:15.1), Adelina Van Dyck (21:26.5) and Paige Perkins (21:27.0) finished 39th, 40th and 41st, respectively, while senior Erika Caballero (21:35.0) and sophomore Alana McCann (21:56.1) rounded out the group in 44th and 53rd, respectively.

POLY
The Polytechnic varsity boys’ cross-country team competed in the CIF-SS Division V prelims at Mt. San Antonio College in Walnut last Saturday, finishing sixth with 123 points, but not enough to qualify for this week’s finals.
Senior Adrian Lazzi finished fourth with a 17:11.4 time, sophomore Ronen Peters (17:51.5) placed 17th, and sophomore Daniel Zheng (18:19.3) claimed 31st. Sophomores Nathan Menelik (18:49.5) and Simon Zernicki-Glover (18:55.5) were 40th and 42nd, respectively, while junior Nathaniel Karafilis-Spensley (19:38.3) and freshman Brandon Shin (19:44.4) finished 56th and 58th, respectively.

MAYFIELD SENIOR
The Mayfield Senior varsity girls’ cross-country team competed in the CIF-SS Division IV prelims at Mt. San Antonio College last Saturday, finishing eighth with 233 points but failed to qualify for the finals this week.
Senior Cecilia Kvochak (21:05.5) led the team in 31st place, while freshman Lauren Hoshek (22:29.2) and sophomore Sissy Page (22:35.2) claimed 51st and 52nd, respectively. Senior Natalie Miera (22:54.6) and freshman Leah Whitfield (23:09.4) placed 58th and 61st, respectively, while juniors Brianna Choi (24:12.4) and Clare Kvochak (24:18.3) were 74th and 76th, respectively.

MARANATHA
The Maranatha High School varsity boys’ cross-country team sent a pair of individuals to compete in the CIF-SS Division V prelims at Mt. San Antonio College in Walnut last Saturday.
Senior Christopher Yun (17:15.1) finished eighth in the second heat, while junior Jacob Joya Lazo (18:21.2) placed 25th in the third heat.

LA SALLE
The La Salle College Preparatory varsity cross-country teams sent pair of runners to compete in the CIF-SS Division IV prelims at Mt. San Antonio College in Walnut last Saturday.
Senior Alex Alvarez finished sixth for the boys’ team with a 15:47.1 time, while junior Olivia Bohanec placed 23rd for the girls’ team with a 20:28.3 time.
