Marathons Change Lives, Just Like Teachers Do

To celebrate the meaningful impact of educators, TCS recently awarded 50 teachers from around the country to toe the line at this year’s New York City Marathon on Nov. 6.
“Running ignites a fire in us all. It reveals our deepest convictions and best selves. We believe teachers do the same,” Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) said in a statement.
One of this year’s educators chosen is local 4th grade teacher Jackie Baker, from Crestview Preparatory School. Baker is also the “Girls on the Run” head coach at her school, as well as an international brand ambassador.
This year, she added a co-ed running program to Crestview that encompasses the core values: community, responsibility, empathy, sincerity and thinking.
Baker knows the direct impact of her goal setting that it has on her past and present students and athletes. She is determined to run the six Abbot World Marathon Majors in the coming years. Upon completing New York this year, she will have three remaining.
“I can’t think of a better way to celebrate my 20th year teaching than combining my love and passion for running and educating young minds,” Baker said.
Crestview Prep is located at 140 Foothill Blvd. in La Cañada. To learn more about the school, visit crestviewprep.org.
