Monte Vista Grove Homes: Assisted Living Three Ways

By Deborah Herbert
CEO, Monte Vista Grove Homes

Not everyone over the age of 65 will need skilled nursing but most everyone over the age of 65 will need some kind of assisted living.
If feasible, assistance at home is preferred. Depending on the situation, this is not always the best solution. This is where Monte Vista Grove Homes can be a resource. We have created assisted living to meet the needs of today’s senior adults.
The Hearth — this is the traditional assisted living model, with private rooms, for up to 16 individuals. Residents in this program are able to walk on their own or with an assistive device (e.g. walker). They handle most of their grooming, bathroom and dining activities independently or with minimal assistance. Staff provide medication management, stand-by assistance with bathing, and reminders about meals and appointments. Staff can also assist with scheduling medical appointments and transportation.
The Ranch House — this is a specially designed environment, with private rooms, for up to 10 individuals with varying levels and types of dementia. This is a secure building with a homelike environment and safe, independent access to the outdoors. The staff learn what each resident is capable of and then is trained to highlight those qualities rather than focusing on what a resident is unable to do.
The Stewart Cottage — this is a higher acuity assisted living, with private or semi-private rooms, for up to 40 individuals. These residents need more care and a higher staffing ratio than what is offered in either the Hearth or Ranch House. Some residents are bedridden, or wheelchair bound, and need extensive assistance with the activities of daily living. The building was formerly licensed as skilled nursing and is undergoing the process of removing the artifacts of this model and creating a warm, comfortable, personalized, homelike environment. The goal is to provide support to these individuals with increased needs using the social rather than medical model of care.
In all three of these programs, there is a high level of staffing, including a licensed nurse on duty 24/7.
Located on a beautifully landscaped 13.5-acre property, Monte Vista Grove Homes has been known for close to 100 years as a leading provider of care and services for senior adults, in a way that promotes wellness for the body, mind and spirit of each individual.
