Operation Walk Angels and their guests attended the nonprofit’s annual spring luncheon on Wednesday, May 11, at a private club in Pasadena.
Operation Walk is an organization started by Dr. Lawrence Dorr (1941-2020) in 1997 to provide hip and knee replacement surgery to people who are uninsured and/or meet poverty guidelines in the United States and other countries.
Operation Walk Angels is a group of women whose donations help support Operation Walk and its endeavors.
The Angels meet annually for a luncheon in the spring for an update on the past year’s missions. Each Angel is encouraged to bring a friend, family member or colleague who may also be interested in joining the group.
At the luncheon, guest speakers from recent trips bring inspiration to the group. The Angels learn about the people they are helping, and the impact Operation Walk has made on their lives.
This year’s speaker was Dr. Maxine Anderson, who is a trauma surgeon at St. Francis Medical Center and King Drew Medical Center. Anderson has been on several Operation Walk missions (most recently to Cuba) and is not only an outstanding surgeon, but a strong organizational force and leader.
