Maranatha, La Salle in Action; Poly Resumes Prep League Play

The Maranatha High School varsity boys’ volleyball team collected its first Olympic League victory by sweeping visiting Whittier Christian of La Habra, 25-17, 25-9, 25-19, on Thursday, March 31.
Junior Lucas Da costa collected nine kills, 18 digs and three aces. Junior Alec Smith produced seven kills, three aces and four blocks. Sophomore Bryan Chi finished with six kills, seven aces and five digs. Junior Luke Deverian registered 22 assists, seven digs, four blocks and three aces. Seniors Landon Grohs and Cole Demonteverde each tallied one kill while adding seven and five blocks, respectively. Junior Andrew Round recorded 19 digs and one ace.
The Minutemen lost their second straight matchup by falling to visiting Village Christian of Sun Valley, 12-25, 21-25, 25-16, 25-22, in a league contest on Tuesday, March 29. Smith led Maranatha with 11 kills, seven blocks and two aces. Da costa added seven kills, four aces and 11 digs, while Deverian tallied 29 assists, nine digs and three blocks.
Chi finished with six kills, four blocks and six digs, while Demonteverde and Grohs produced four and two kills, respectively.
The visiting Minutemen lost a five-set league match at Whittier Christian, 25-23, 25-18, 16-25, 21-25, 13-15, on Tuesday, March 22. Da Costa collected 13 kills, three aces, 18 digs and 12 assists, while Chi added 11 kills and two aces. Round tallied seven kills, 11 digs and one ace. Deverian logged four kills, 16 digs and 16 assists. Junior Charlie Li posted three kills, two aces and three blocks. Grohs produced four kills and three blocks, and senior Eric Miles had 15 digs and four aces.
The Minutemen (6-6 overall record, 1-2 in league) visit Village Christian for a league rematch on Thursday, April 7, at 5:15 p.m.

LA SALLE
The Lancers closed the month by falling to visiting San Marino, 3-1, in a nonleague matchup last Thursday. Visiting La Salle was previously swept at Bishop Montgomery of Torrance, 3-0, in a Del Rey League contest last Tuesday. No individual statistics were reported to the Pasadena Outlook.
The Lancers (5-12 overall, 2-2 in league) are scheduled to host Cathedral High of Los Angeles in a league rematch on Thursday, April 7, at 5 p.m.

POLYTECHNIC
The Panthers have been idle since dropping a Prep League match at rival Flintridge Prep of La Cañada, 25-18, 15-25, 13-25, 16-25.
Poly (7-5 overall record, 2-2 in league) is scheduled to return to action by visiting Rio Hondo Prep in Arcadia in a league matchup on Friday, April 8, at 5 p.m.
