Local High School Softball Teams in Action

The Mayfield Senior girls’ varsity softball team recently competed in the 15th annual Torrey Invitational and collected two wins in four games over the last weekend.
The Cubs were shut out in tournament play by Canyon Hills High of San Diego, 14-0.
Mayfield finished its tournament doubleheader by defeating Bishop’s of La Jolla, 15-7. Sophomore Madilyn Domingo went 2-for-4 with a double, four runs scored and two RBIs, while freshman Penelope Pegram produced a pair of base hits, two runs scored and an RBI. Senior Jamie Pernecky doubled with three RBIs and a run scored, and freshman Kennedy Taylor finished with a double, two RBIs and a run scored. Freshman Jaz Johnson recorded one RBI and two runs scored while freshman Jenna Domingo tallied a base hit and a pair of runs scored. Senior Maria Dilbeck and freshman Peyton Pegram each had a base hit, an RBI and a run scored, and freshman Sasha Gracia notched a base hit.
The Cubs opened their doubleheader on Saturday with an 8-4 loss to La Jolla Country Day, despite Johnson finishing 3-for-3 with a pair of doubles, an RBI and a run scored. Penelope Pegram, Pernecky and Taylor each tallied a base hit and a run scored, while sophomore Madilyn Domingo had a base hit and an RBI. Dilbeck and Jenna Domingo finished with an RBI and a base hit, respectively. Mayfield previously defeated La Jolla Country Day, 13-2, in its tournament opener.
The Cubs were shut out for the first time this season against visiting Rio Hondo Prep of Arcadia, 5-0, in a Prep League game. Senior Caitlin Dopudja, senior Emily Vargas and Johnson each recorded a base hit.
Mayfield (9-6-1 overall record, 3-2 in league) is scheduled to host Providence High of Burbank in a league game on Friday, April 8, at 3:30 p.m. The last meeting between these schools resulted in a Providence victory, 5-3.

FLINTRIDGE SACRED HEART
The Tologs’ fine season continued as they crushed visiting Notre Dame Academy of Los Angeles, 21-0, in a Sunshine League game last Thursday.
Junior Marie Milton extended her hitting streak to 26 games dating back to last April by finishing with a pair of base hits, three RBIs and two runs scored. She rose her batting average to .529 while notching her team-leading 35th and 36th base hits.
Senior Victoria Ramirez struck out an even dozen over five innings in the circle while finishing with a double, two RBIs and two runs scored at the plate. Senior Maddie Napierala went 2-for-2 with a double, two runs scored and an RBI, while junior Cameron Bender and sophomore Isabela Guerrero each had a base hit, two RBIs and a run scored. Freshman Ava Nawrocki posted a double and two runs scored. Junior Meghan Garrity registered a base hit and two runs scored. Senior Jessie Mysza recorded a base hit, an RBI and a run scored. Senior Olivia Ocon scored four runs, junior Charlotte Taylor added a run scored and an RBI, and senior Lola Low, junior Ellie McCarthy and junior Cassie Huston each scored once.
FSHA (11-7 overall, 4-0 in league) scored in four of the five innings during a 19-0 league victory at Flintridge Prep last Wednesday as four Tologs blasted home runs. Guerrero channeled her inner Shohei Ohtani by striking out seven over five shutout innings while finishing 3-for-3 with a home run, a pair of doubles, five RBIs and three runs scored at the plate. Marie Milton went 2-for-5 with a home run, four RBIs and three runs scored, while Ocon tallied a home run, three RBIs and two runs scored. McCarthy belted a solo home run with an additional run scored, and Ramirez finished 2-for-4 with a double, two RBIs and two runs scored. Garrity produced a double, an RBI and a run scored. Senior Faith Blea notched a base hit, two runs scored and an RBI. Napierala, Nawrocki and Bender each had a base hit and a run scored, sophomore Megan Milton scored once, and Low recorded an RBI.
The Tologs were edged by El Camino High of Oceanside, 5-4, in their Canyon Crest Academy tournament finale on Saturday, March 26. A pair of hits helped Marie Milton extend her hitting streak to 24 games dating to April 20, 2021. She has reached base at least once in all 16 games this season while collecting 10 multi-hit performances.
The Tologs entered this week with a 9-7 overall record (3-0 in league).

FLINTRIDGE PREP
The Wolves lost a Prep League game at Rio Hondo Prep of Arcadia, 11-1, on Friday. Asta Uziel collected a base hit, a stolen base and a run scored, while Elise Fong tallied a base hit and an RBI.
Flintridge Prep (2-8-1 overall, 1-5 in league) previously returned to action and lost a nonleague game to visiting Flintridge Sacred Heart, 19-0.
The Wolves are scheduled to host Westridge School in a league rematch on Tuesday, April 12. The last meeting between Flintridge Prep and the Tigers saw the latter win on a walk-off, 7-6, last month.

LA SALLE
The visiting Lancers were edged at Serra High of Gardena, 8-7, in a Del Rey League game on last Thursday. La Salle previously collected a league victory over visiting Pomona Catholic, 8-6, on Tuesday, March 22. No individual statistics were reported to the Pasadena Outlook.
The Lancers (3-7 overall, 2-2 in league) are scheduled to visit Pomona Catholic High in a league game on Thursday, April 7, at 2:45 p.m.

MARANATHA
The Minutemen lost an Olympic League game via forfeit to Heritage Christian of Northridge on Friday. Maranatha was previously edged by Valley Christian of Cerritos, 5-4, in a league game. The Minutemen were shut out for a second straight game at La Habra Whittier Christian, 19-0, with no individual statistics reported to the Pasadena Outlook.
Maranatha (1-5 overall, 0-4 in league) is scheduled to host Village Christian of Sun Valley in a league encounter on Thursday, April 7, at 3:30 p.m.

WESTRIDGE

Reed Dietrick and her Westridge teammates return to action this Friday and will seek their first Prep League win of the season at Rio Hondo Prep of Arcadia.

The Tigers have been idle since defeating visiting Flintridge Prep, 7-6, in a Prep League game on March 18.
Westridge (2-4 overall, 2-3 in league) will host Glendale in a nonleague game on Thursday, April 7, at 3:30 p.m.

POLYTECHNIC
The Panthers have been idle since dropping a nonleague game to visiting Alverno Heights Academy of Sierra Madre, 10-0, on March 18.
Poly (1-7 overall, 0-4 in league) is scheduled to visit Rio Hondo Prep of Arcadia in a Prep League game on Friday, April 8, at 3:45 p.m.
