The annual Walk for Kids held by Ronald McDonald House Pasadena will take place on Saturday, April 30, at the Rose Bowl Stadium, where volunteers, companies, and donors and community members can come together to support critically ill children and their families.
The fun, family-centered event aims to raise $125,000 to provide comfortable beds, hot meals, and a caring staff for the children and families staying at the house.
Ronald McDonald House Pasadena is a home-away-from-home for families with critically ill children, keeping them close to one another, their doctors and needed medical care. The support of the community gives them hope, strength and courage when they need it most.
Participants walk for families such as the Watson family, who first stayed at the Ronald McDonald House in 2018 while 7-year-old Alanna Watson was being treated for medulloblastoma, a form of brain cancer.
Near the completion of her treatment, Alanna was able to visit Camp Ronald McDonald for Good Times. At the camp, Alanna was able to have fun with children her own age after the isolation she’d experienced in the hospital.
“Walk for Kids is an important time for families with critically ill children to see and feel the support of their community. We are thrilled to host our Walk for Kids in person this year. The support we receive from the community enables us to keep families close when their child is impacted by a medical crisis,” said Mara Leong-Maguinez, executive director of Ronald McDonald House Pasadena. “Our highest priority is the health and safety of our walkers and communities, and we invite supporters to participate in the way they feel most comfortable.”
On the day of the walk event, there will be vendor booths, food and entertainment. Supporters may register as either an individual or virtual walker, start or join a team, or donate directly by visiting walkforkids.org/pasadena.
Walk for Kids is sponsored by L.A. Financial Credit Union, Bank of America, Aspire Bakeries and Shriners for Children Medical Center.
