Westridge Edges Mayfield Senior in Rivalry Game; FSHA, Maranatha, La Salle Also in League Action

Westridge School’s varsity girls’ basketball team opened the week by defeating Mayfield Senior, 45-42, in a Prep League game last Monday.
Sarah Kong and Ileia Gibbs each scored 14 points for the Tigers, Isabella Man added 13 points, and Jaedyn Tsang and Ariana Epstein each ended with two points.
Mayfield was led by senior Chloe Marick, who scored a team-high 14 points, while freshman Christine Ellis added 11 points. Senior Siobhan Clancy posted eight points, freshman Jenna Domingo had six points and senior Alexa Valenzuela finished with three points.
The previous week, Westridge (3-7 overall record, 1-5 in league) fell to visiting Arcadia Rio Hondo Prep, 55-33, on Jan. 20. Gibbs racked up a team-high 21 points while Kong and Lauren Lauderdale scored five and two points, respectively.
Westridge lost to visiting Burbank Providence, 56-28, last Wednesday. Kong led the Tigers with 12 points while Gibbs and Man added nine and seven points, respectively. Epstein and Lauderdale finished with three and two points, respectively.
Westridge is scheduled to resume league action at Chadwick of the Palos Verdes Peninsula on Friday, Jan. 28, at 5 p.m.

MAYFIELD SENIOR
It has been a challenging stretch for Mayfield, as the Cubs dropped all four of their games since returning to action in mid-January.
The Cubs recently squared off at Polytechnic and lost the league matchup, 44-31, on Jan. 22. Chloe Marick registered 11 points, Alexa Valenzuela posted six points, and sophomore Erin Michelena and Siobhan Clancy each had four points. Senior Natalie Boutros finished with three points, Christine Ellis tallied two points and Jenna Domingo made a free throw.
Mayfield hosted Burbank Providence and lost the league contest, 60-23, last Thursday. Domingo led with eight points, Marick added seven points, Ellis posted four points, freshman Kristen Awakuni finished with three points and Michelena registered one point.
The Cubs returned to league action after being idle since mid-December and fell to visiting Arcadia Rio Hondo Prep, 51-29, last Tuesday. Domingo scored seven points, Marick recorded six points, and Valenzuela, Awakuni and Michelena each had four points. Junior Maro Avedissian and Ellis each finished with 2 points.
Mayfield is scheduled to host Chadwick of the Palos Verdes Peninsula for a league matchup on Thursday, Jan. 27, at 5 p.m.

FLINTRIDGE SACRED HEART
The Tologs posted a Sunshine League victory over visiting Los Angeles Immaculate Heart, 40-29, last Tuesday as senior Faith Ellis and freshman Ava Nawrocki posted 14 and 10 points, respectively.
Senior Isabella Cao and junior Meghan Garrity each scored six points, while sophomore Isabelle Risha added four points.
FSHA (9-5 overall, 2-1 in league) fell at Woodland Hills Louisville in a league matchup on Jan. 13. No individual statistics were reported to the Outlook.
After being idle for three weeks, FSHA defeated visiting Los Angeles Notre Dame Academy, 57-53. Ellis posted a team-high 18 points while Nawrocki and senior Sofia Parker scored 11 and 10 points, respectively. Senior Angelina Cao, Isabella Cao and junior Sophia Heredia each added six points.
The Tologs are scheduled to visit Notre Dame Academy for a league rematch on Thursday, Jan. 27, at 6 p.m.

MARANATHA
After dropping their first 11 games to open the season, the Minutemen found their groove and registered back-to-back Olympic League victories last week.
Maranatha (2-3 league record, 2-11 overall) traveled to Cerritos Valley Christian and won a close contest, 50-47, on Jan. 21. Earlier in the week, the Minutemen edged host La Habra Whittier Christian, 37-35, last Wednesday, Jan. 19, to collect their first win this season.
The day before, Maranatha lost a league game at Sun Valley Village Christian, 43-28, on Jan. 18, while also falling to Northridge Heritage Christian, 57-50, on Jan. 11. No individual statistics were reported to the Outlook.
The Minutemen are scheduled to host Village Christian for a league rematch on Friday, Jan. 28, at 5:30 p.m.

LA SALLE

The Lancers earned their eighth straight win after dominating visiting St. Mary’s Academy of Inglewood, 57-36, during a Camino Real League contest on Jan. 13 as freshman Kaden Cortes amassed a game-high 20 points.
Sophomore Audrey Chen added 12 points, nine rebounds and five assists, Ryann Riddle accumulated eight points, 12 boards and two blocks, and junior Reese Wong had eight points and five assists. Sophomore Avery Ward finished with six points and six rebounds, while sophomore Aubrey Ramos scored one of two field goal attempts inside the arc.
Earlier that week, La Salle (2-0 league record, 16-2 overall) hosted Panorama City St. Genevieve and won the league matchup, 50-35, as three Lancers scored double figures. Chen registered a game-high 15 points, four rebounds and three steals, Wong added 13 points and Cortes had 12 points. Riddle recorded a team-high 14 boards with five points while Ramos also finished with five points.
The Lancers are scheduled to visit St. Genevieve for a league rematch on Thursday, Jan. 27, at 7 p.m
