Mayfield, Flintridge Prep Score Victories

The Mayfield Senior varsity girls’ soccer team remained hot early in the season and picked up a 6-1 victory over host Pasadena High on Monday.
Senior Sonja Smeritschnig scored three goals for the hat trick and teammates Audrey Arias, Kaitlyn Gomez and Miranda McDevitt each contributed a score to help the Cubs improve to 4-1-1 on the season.
Mayfield, which has also defeated Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy, San Marino and Tustin, will travel to to face Grace Brethren of Simi Valley in the Best of the West Tournament at Tustin High School this Saturday at 12:30 p.m.

Flintridge Prep Edges FSHA

Two of the top soccer programs in the area squared off on Monday and Flintridge Prep came out on top with a 1-0 victory over visiting Flintridge Sacred Heart.
Junior Sage Shurman scored the lone goal of the match and Anna Bozzi-MacKay was between the posts to record the shutout.
Flintridge Prep (5-0-1 overall) will hit the road to face Downey High a Best of the West Tournament match.
The Tologs (2-2-1 overall) will look to bounce back against intra-city rival La Cañada in a nonleague contest this Friday at 3:30 p.m.

Poly Competing in Tourney

The Panthers bounced back from a 5-1 defeat against La Habra by tying Santa Ana, 1-1, in the Best of the West Tournament.
Polytechnic will resume tourney play against Cerritos at Westminster High this Saturday at 9:30 a.m.

Westridge Falls to 0-4

The Tigers suffered their fourth consecutive setback on Friday, falling to Temple City, 4-2, in a nonleague match.
Westridge (0-4 overall) will host Village Christian of Sun Valley in a nonleague match today at 3:15 p.m. The Tigers will then be idle for two weeks and return for Prep League play on Jan. 4.
