A Message From Huntington Hospital’s President/CEO

Dr. Lori J. Morgan Celebrates
‘Our Nurses and Hospital Employees’

To our patients, friends, colleagues, and community members:

Exactly one year ago, I shared a note of gratitude with you, our incredible community. Huntington was at the frontlines of a pandemic, a novel virus, and ultimately, a local health crisis. Your remarkable support – in the form of protective items like masks, an outpouring of gratitude for our healthcare workers, and doing your part in helping stop the spread of the virus – allowed us to safely treat patients through three surges of the COVID-19 virus.
A year later, we all are taking stock. Our community has experienced unprecedented disruption: many suffered and lost loved ones. Thankfully, Huntington is seeing a decline in COVID-19 hospitalizations, particularly in the ICU. The vaccine is working and our efforts to vaccinate our community quickly and equitably are well underway, thanks to our work with the City of Pasadena and our community partners.
Now, we begin the return to what I call the “next normal.” Huntington’s affiliated physicians and caregivers remain hard at work, attending to the lasting health impacts of COVID-19. Whether it is processing their own delayed trauma from being a healthcare worker during a pandemic or caring for patients with advanced medical conditions and ailments due to delays in care, our challenges are not over.
In May, we recognize Nurses’ Week and Hospital Week. As you might imagine, these annual celebrations have taken on new meaning at our hospital after the past year. Our frontline healthcare providers and employees have been put in unparalleled situations. They have held hands when no one else could, dried tears when our very best was not enough, missed countless moments with their families and worried about the impact of the virus on their own loved ones. Their dedication is awe-inspiring, and we are committed to supporting them as they supported us.
I’m hoping you will please join me in thanking healthcare workers, heroes who have displayed tremendous courage and commitment in the face of this health crisis.

Sincerely,
Lori J. Morgan, MD, MBA,
President and CEO,
Huntington Hospital
