Damerel Named President of Pasadena Showcase House for the Arts

Pasadena Showcase House for the Arts said recently that Barbara Damerel has been named the organization’s president for the 2020-21 term.
An active member of PSHA since 2003, Damerel has held numerous board and committee positions for the group, including benefit chair for the 2019 Pasadena Showcase House of Design in Descanso Gardens.
“Over the years I have observed how resilient PSHA is as an organization while undertaking a fundraiser of such an enormous size and scope as the Pasadena Showcase House of Design,” Damerel said. “I have been awed by the resourcefulness and dedication of the all-volunteer membership as we find solutions to nearly insurmountable problems.

“Now, with all the issues presented by the pandemic, we have once again faced adversity and pivoted to present the 2020 Showcase House as an innovative and comprehensive virtual tour. It took quick thinking, creativity, a committed team and a devoted membership to bring it to fruition. I am grateful to and proud of the many members who give so generously of their time and talents to ensure PSHA is able to continue to support music programs in the community.”
Damerel added: “Although this year we have had to pause the production of our own music programs for safety reasons, we are elated that we are able to conduct the Gifts & Grants program this year and offer grants to the many organizations that do such outstanding work in the arts community. We will continue to find new ways to meet our goals in this unprecedented set of circumstances. We know the loyalty and support of our visitors, designers, resources and, of course, our members will see us through.”
Damerel has volunteered in the Huntington Hospital gift shop for 39 years and serves on the board for the Hill Harbison House in San Marino. She was active in San Marino schools, Girl Scouts and San Marino Area Chapter of National Charity League.
She has resided in San Marino since 1977 with her husband, Jeffrey. She has a grown son, Barrett, who with his wife, Brooke, and daughter, Clarke, resides in La Cañada Flintridge. Her daughter, Darsie, and son-in-law, Ryan, live in Kenmore, Washington. Damerel also has her own insurance business.
Pasadena Showcase House for the Arts was created to bring the joy of music to children and adults through exposure, education and experience. Since 1948, it has donated more than $23 million and countless volunteer hours to reaching 6,000 elementary school students and musicians ages 16-24 annually. Gifts & Grants awards financial support to nonprofit organizations in the local performing arts community.
