Muse/ique began its inaugural summer at the Huntington Library recently with “Limitless/Lenny,” a performance exploring the music of Leonard Bernstein. The late composer and conductor’s 100th birthday served as a celebration for America and the American sound, from a hip-hop-infused rendition of “On the Waterfront” to songs by Bernstein influencers and collaborators John Lennon and Paul Simon.
Conducted by Artistic Director Rachael Worby, Muse/ique this summer is exploring the mapping of musical America. Inspired by the Huntington’s American art and library collections, Worby has curated a series that will celebrate the American sound. Each program will showcase a different facet of our country’s rich cultural heritage.
