YWCA’s Women for Racial Justice Breakfast is Oct. 23

Edina Lekovic, director of policy and programming at Muslim Public Affairs Council, will be the keynote speaker for the 15th annual Women for Racial Justice Breakfast, the YWCA Pasadena-Foothill Valley recently announced.
The event will be from 7-9 a.m. Monday, Oct. 23, at the Pasadena Hilton Hotel, located at 168 S. Los Robles Ave. in Pasadena.

Lekovic is a leading voice on American Muslims and an inter-community builder between diverse faith traditions. Through her work with the Muslim Public Affairs Council, she has advocated on behalf of American Muslims in news media, interfaith, community and pop culture spaces and has appeared on leading media outlets, including CNN, Fox News, Huffington Post and NPR. She is a co-founder and board member of NewGround: A Muslim-Jewish Partnership for Change, a board member of multifaith house of worship The Pico-Union Project, and a member of L.A. Mayor Eric Garcetti’s Interfaith Leaders Collaborative.

The YWCA Pasadena also will present the Racial Justice Award to Angelica Salas, executive director of the Coalition for Humane Immigration Rights Los Angeles, for her unwavering dedication in fighting for racial equality and fair immigration reform. Salas helped win in-state tuition for undocumented immigrant students, established day laborer job centers that have served as models for the rest of the nation and led efforts to allow all California drivers to obtain a driver’s license.
Additionally, PCL Construction will be a corporate recipient of the Racial Justice Award for its dedication to employment equity and inclusiveness.
Emmy award-winning news anchor Cher Calvin of KTLA-5 again will emcee the event.
Since 2002, the YWCA’s Women for Racial Justice Breakfast has brought hundreds of Pasadena’s most influential members of the business, civic and philanthropic communities together to share in the YWCA’s efforts to promote and support racial justice.
